There's a petition to move the student section back behind the home bench. Why you should go to the website and sign it:
1- Helps our team kick more butt!
2- Shows the next generation of Husker fans they matter and thus will help build our brand in the future.
3- Worried about standing all game? Don't be. The originator of the petition suggests removing the 2 rows behind so you can still rest your feet!

Full disclosure, I was a student at UNL from 2002-2006. It was pretty lame having the loudest fans furthest from the field!

I don't want them behind the bench. Too big a distraction during the game. Wouldn't mind them taking up an entire end zone though.
Closer to the action is better than what it is right now, even if they go to the endzones. That said, football is a game charged with emotion. It's up to our coaches and players to use that fervor to their advantage rather than let it be a distraction! A smart coach will use that energy to its fullest advantage, IMO.

Seems like an ok idea but practically that's relocating probably millions of dollars in annual donations to less desirable seats. It would be a logistical nightmare and at a time when the "sellout streak" is in jeopardy I can't imagine the university would want to piss off a ton of current season ticket holders.

Not a fan of this. I don't think people who donate thousands of dollars to the university some of whom have had the same seats for decades should have to give up their seats for a bunch of drunken college students who don't even stay for the whole game. These kids need to realize that if you want the best seats in the house you have to work for them. They already have quite a few seats in east stadium they don't need any more.

But, they are the ones in THAT school. Wouldn't be any different, them leaving early, or the ones they'd move that sit on their hands.

Those students ARE the school.

First of all kids gotta show up. Empty seats behind the bench doesn't do much for home field advantage.
I agree they should be near the field. It creates a lot more noise and excitement. However, again they gotta show every game.

Back in the early 90's the student section was in the East stadium up to the 50 yard line I believe. Through the 90's, the kept taking some of the tickets from the students and converted them to season tickets for people willing to donate. When I was in school, starting late 90's, I was able to get tickets around the 30 yard line in East stadium, but most the student section was moved to south stadium. They then continued to move the student section back in the corner because people in the corner complained the students stood the entire game.

This isn't really moving people from seats they have had for a long time. It is more about moving the student section back to where it was. I also believe these students who pay close to $20k per year to the University should get better seats than they currently do. People need to realize if the students didn't go to the University, there would be no team to cheer.

When students were 100% in the East Stadium, they showed up - and early. When they moved their seats to the least desirable in the stadium, they don't show up consistently for Southwest Arizona State. Now we blame them by saying "well, you don't show up, so you don't get good seats." It's a bit of a chicken and egg issue if you ask me. This is a COLLEGE sport and I believe COLLEGE students should be given some preferential treatment, even in the face of money money money.

Big fan of this. The entire stadium only gets up for 1 or 2 games a year but the student section is up for every game. Lincoln hasn't been a very intimidating place to play for a while
