I know "their" is wrong in the title - carry on.
Things are rough right now - they've been rough since the season started. None of us like it. All of us want it to change. I want to suggest that rather than battle for a declaration of which part of our fanbase is right - the pro-Riley v. Go-Riley - why don't we just agree that the status of our football team is in a bad place right now and the people in charge will either fix it or they won't and we will give them some commonly held concerns.
I know a fair bit about football, played college and coached lots of high school and some college. I'm not real old but I'm not young. I can't tell you what exactly is wrong with this team. Even if I dissected the film, and I won't, would that even tell me everything I need to know? I don't believe so.
I think we've heard it all in the last few weeks as to what is wrong with this team. There are so many theories they start to counter each other. This same clusterf&ck occurred when we fired Frank Solich, fired Steve Pederson, fired Bill Callahan, fired Bo Pelion. It's the clusterf$ck, unfortunately, that becomes the story.
I get it that we all love NU football. Can we say that to each other? While I think LandOHusker is the biggest troll ever, I still think he loves the Red. I know we cough up ideas like phlegm just to rid the sour taste. But spewing our crap on each other is kind of dumb really. It doesn't make us look smarter, it doesn't make us look more passionate, it doesn't make us tougher. It just makes us look like liars - we can't say that this sucks, that we miss our dominant team, we'd like our team to be relevant again?
Yes, as much as Herbstreit bugs us, we'd like Gameday to show up at our house. As much as we think the SEC pays off players, we'd sure like some of them. What are we the greatest fans of - winning/strutting or our team?
Does anyone really think Eichorst is stupid or that Mike Riley doesn't know anything about football? Or that neither wants to win badly? Does anyone think they are such bad people who deserve such vile?
Calm down. We have a problem to solve. Ideas and suggestions are welcome - hate and vile are not. I recommend that if we want to be part of the solution, we quit yelling and show that we are vested in this team in a productive, proactive way. That way we can look intelligent instead of childish.
How about five or ten problems we see in the team. Or five or ten things we would like to see in the team? Do you think as a group we could come up with a common set of values or concerns to share with leadership. In a sense, we are the stockholders and should provide CONSTRUCTIVE ideas to help the organization.
So let's start with 5 - five things we can all agree on that we would like to see in the team that is missing. Perhaps we can get Sean to share it with someone. Maybe it's stupid but it makes more sense than what I've read for 3 weeks.
Thoughts?
Uh - could someone fix my title?
