Left wondering if the Riley change was a year too late?

for immediate success at least.

Imagine the following:

Armstrong seemed to make little progress last year with the former coaching staff during the 2014 off-season. So I'm going with the assumption that he makes the same strides last year that he has this year. Then adding:
  • Ameer in the backfield.
  • Bell on the outside.
  • A healthy DPE as a true frosh.

Just these three instead of their replacements and I think it is safe to assume we are 3-0 right now.

The big miss is Gregory. I think it is safe to say that this defense would look MUCH different with a game changer in the front 4.

Mitchell was the best corner in man coverage last year.

There was some (if not great) linebacker depth with Roach and Santos.

Is the cupboard just a little too bare this year, and were the losses just a bit too big to expect a fast start? Ameer, Bell and Gregory were game changers that this team didn't have true replacements for. If you put these guys in the new offense and defense, what kind of success do we have? Serious question, thoughts anyone?
