Ugggg, so disappointed in many of the calls. Especially on first down. The whole country knew what play was coming on first down and so did Wisc. Basically working with 3rd and 8-10 the whole night. If this was a one game deal I would say ok, not a huge problem. This has been all year. Very basic plays, ones the D can figure out after watching 20 min of game film. I understand Tommy as Qb limits what can be called. At least get some variety, try something different.
Do you think Riley should consider replacing him at year end? Or Im I way off and does it have nothing to do with Langs and is this Riley wanting to play it safe?

You're way off. Smh

The hardest thing about being a Husker fan is other Husker fans. We should be thankful that we have an OC of his caliber. D1 AD's will be calling him soon.

Geezus Christmas! We are 7-1 and have one of the top offenses in the Big Ten even though the whole offense is a MASH unit. Can't we just enjoy the ride? I doubt there is a coordinator in the country that you couldn't cherry pick a few calls every game about.

I really thought maybe, at 7-1 an overtime loss on the road against the #11 team in the nation, we might get through the week without anyone calling for a coach's job. Silly me.

That being said, I do think we should have given up on the inside run during overtime. It does seem like Langs saw something he was trying to expose, and we never quite capitalized on it.

Would have liked to seen us pass on first or second down last night in OVT instead of 3rd and 4th...Other wise the rest of the game the players need to make plays.
Yep - I'm big-time in Langsdorf's camp, but if you want to take that shot in the end zone, maybe try it on first down instead of a low percentage play for 4th. When you're facing 4th and 9, I think that's where you have to trust Westy with a quick sit down pattern at the sticks.

I completely agree with the first half of what you said. I did like the draw call on second down though. It's a good way to catch an aggressive defense like Wisconsins off guard. Unfortunately Utter tripped over the white lines on the field

I was hoping for some zone read to possibly utilize his running ability on those first two plays if we were going to run the ball.

That play was consistently the most successful running play Nebraska ran last night.

Seems a play is judged to be good or bad if it succeeds. In any given play you have several questions to answer. people focus on the outcome, not the strategy of the call based on the D, the blocking scheme called by the center, audible by Tommy and it goes on. people question where Tommy goes with the ball and my guess is a full field view would show guys open. so was that play a bad call or was execution bad? Frankly I am tired of hearing the criticism and nothing to back it up besides a casual understanding of football fundamentals.

He's an excellent OC and a great QB coach. Waaaaay off.

He did ok, I would have liked to see them throw hooks to Morgan a few more times and in OT. He was killing it with those hooks. Too many of our pass plays are deep or short, we need to get better at mid range passing.

I can agree with this, but Tommy was not very accurate last night. Bad pass on first down puts us even deeper in the hole... just was a tough night to find yards against a good defense.

He is safe IMO, depleted OL and working with a QB who's talents this staff isn't accustomed to. The real tale when be in 2-3 yrs unless he gets another offer to leave (back to NFL or a HC job somewhere)

And how many did we use last night?
Not as many as he probably would have liked. A screen has to have lineman that can get to the next level quick. High risk with a bunch of beat up ankles. If they call a screen against the wrong blitz... they tip or pick yet another pass and take it to the house.

As banged up as our OL is right now, I'm not sure we will see a lot of screens. Also, as good as Wisconsin is at LB, I'm not sure they thought it was a good match up either.
Yup. They are smart players. They sniff it out and it spells disaster if one of the hobbled lineman can't get out there.

You gotta be kidding me. I wasn't happy with the two runs to open up our OT offensive series, but I thought langs did well with what he had to work with overall. GBR

NOBODY from this staff is going anywhere unless it is of their own choosing.

Langsdorf really did a great job with what we were working with. I am sure knowing that we had four downs to make the ten he thought the run would get it started. Third down was the killer with Westy not getting the call. If we are as successful as I hope we will be in the next few years then I suspect Langsdorf will be our next head coach.

That's what happens when the guy on the Wisconsin sidelines knows your plays better than your own OC.
