Kyrie Irving either trolling or completely nuts...

Months and he was hurt ...he used them to train for the NBA ...is there any chance he was kidding?

SickNo nuttier than those who deny the fossil record and are still hunting for the remains of that big wooden boat.

The difference is that the earth being round has been photographed from space during our lifetime, whereas the remains of a big wooden ark hasn't been proven or disproven. Actually, there are soil samples that are consistent with a catastrophic flood occurring at the approximate time that has been suggested in the Bible.

Edit - I'm not saying one way or the other, because we just don't know whether a flood occurred or not...but we know for certain that the earth is round.

Actually many scientist and physicist believe the universe is flat. Guess they're nutty too.

A flood occuring several thousand years ago isn't validation for young earth theory or creationism...

Wow, that came out of left field. When did I ever suggest it was?

However...protein synthesis, DNA replication, mitosis, meiosis, and evolution sure are pretty good examples of intelligent design.

Staying on topic and not something to get the thread locked... some people are so stupid that they will believe anything... the earth is round! Money does not make one smarter, but it makes people look up to you and believe something just because you said it.

I read it on the internet, so it has to be true... bonjour!

Kyrie also said:
“I’ve seen a lot of things that my educational system has said that was real that turned out to be completely fake."

I am curious because this probably does happen... so what are some things that you guys have learned in school (K-12 or college) that turned out to be completely fake?

One thing in school that always drove me crazy was my english and philosophy teachers/professors trying to tell me the meaning of some things in books.

So if we had to read Shakespeare or Poe for instance and a sentence said 'We walked to the river to enjoy the sunset', my teacher would ask me what it meant. Well, to me, they walked to the river to enjoy the damn sunset!

Well, I was obviously wrong because according to my teacher it really meant that the river was just a metaphor for their life and it kept flowing without stopping while different things fell into the river (new people come into your life) and some things got stuck and were left behind during different stages of their life, while the sunset was them nearing the end of their long river of life.

I guess I am just not a philosophical person.

Irving is trolling. It's that obvious that he is begging for attention. I choose just to ignore the comments when they are that outrageous.

It has been 25 years since I graduated, and I have still yet to use algebra in real life. Just saying.

According to the holographic universe theory, he may be partially correct.

Apparently you haven't had kids in school that took algebra then! lol

My 3rd grade girls are already learning shapes and angles in school and I help them with that stuff all I can. I am a nerd and actually liked math in high school.

I just helped my niece with her geometry homework about a month ago.

I farm and was trying to figure out a yield on a field based off the yield that the combine showed vs the yield we ended up with at the elevator where we had two different seeds. One seed was planted on 158 acres and the other was planted on 68 acres or so. Well, we got 17,500 bushels total and I knew the combine's harvest monitor numbers for each type of seed.

I seriously ended up writing out a formula on paper to solve for X...

It took me at least 15 minutes, but I figured out what the actual yield was for each hybrid so I could give the information to my Channel Seed dealer.

Since high school, I have probably used actual algebra on paper just a handful of times. I have used math almost every day in my life. I have used geometry quite a few times, especially when I was building a large building for my dad last year.

On second reading you really didn't, my fault for jumping to conclusions...

See? We ARE capable of having a reasonable discussion when some of us ( you) might think some of us( me) are nuts for our thoughts❤️

I would agree, he probably has the equivalent of a 6th grade education.

Wow. He was joking about the world being flat to prove a point about the media. It's not like he was trying to convince us that evolution was bs and that every single thing to ever exist was created in one week.

when he cashes his check this week, his education or his beliefs will have little impact.

I don't think anyone was completely convinced that Kyrie Irving said these things with conviction, but what reason would he have for trolling people on topics like this? Whether he was being truthful or not, he ends up looking like an idiot. Does he think he was breaking new ground accusing the media of being full of it? Yeah, no one has ever suggested that before. Sigh..

I believe he also discussed the dinosaurs being fake, so there's a few different topics where he looks foolish for either trolling or speaking with conviction. To me it sounds like a person that has been indoctrinated by some of the blather that staunchly religious people buy into. Or yet another goofy conspiracy theorist. Maybe someone should ask him if 9/11 was an inside job.

He isn't trolling. He's just not the sharpest tool in the shed. And once a person starts reading conspiracy theory websites, they can start going down the rabbit hole rather quickly ...

I honestly could not care what any NBA player thinks. I would rather watch the car rust festival in Fremont than watch an NBA game.

It seemed pretty clear that he was making a statement about fake news, alternative facts and people needing to do their own research before believing what they read/hear. While he didn't explicitly state it, his comments yesterday would appear to confirm that. Adam Silver also backed him up on it.

Kyrie:
“There’s just so many real things going on, things that are going on that’s changing the shape of our lives. I think sometimes it gets skewed because of who we are in the basketball world: ‘Oh, man, what does he actually think? I don’t like Kyrie Irving because he thinks that the world is flat, or he thinks that the world can’t be wrong.’”

Silver:
“Kyrie and I went to the same college [Duke]. He may have taken some different courses,” Silver joked, before adding: “In all seriousness, he was trying to be provocative and I think it was effective. I think it was a larger comment on the sort of so-called fake news debate that’s going on in our society right now ... personally I believe the world is round.”

Sorry but having seen, read, and heard about and from him, why is the choice of both as true not being looked at as an option?

OK, so he's just really really late to the party. Stating everything you read isn't true isn't exactly an earth-shattering moment.

I'll tell you and fire away... I don't mind you mocking until the day is done, but I'm incredibly comfortable believing my Bible. This in no way diminishes my love for those of you who don't ! Blessings!

But I'm sure you don't believe the universe is less than 10,000 years old either though. The Bible leaves a lot up to interpretation.
