Sorry if this has been discussed, just wonder what happened with him. As of Nov 30 his dad was quoted as saying he is planning to be back at Neb in Jan. Up till a week or so ago he was tweeting out nebraska related stuff. Then out of the the blue he isn't coming.

Yep, my guess also.
The new staff wasn't kissing booty and may not have even wanted him.

My guess is that they didn’t get their way so they took their ball and went home..
He got the cold shoulder from Frost is my guess. Showing up out of shape last year did not help his chances either.

What could he have wanted? To have 100% attention on him? Frost and Co didn't seem to pay much attention to him. That is the only thing I can think of at this point.

Unless I missed it, I think the absence of any tweets or whatever about him talking to any of the coaches speaks volumes. My guess is the new staff wasn't very high on him.

Best of luck wherever he ends up.

I'm guessing Wilhite and Davison didn't think too highly of him, based on his short time here.

Yea I don't think Lamar Jackson has a shot in hell of staying here next year, even if he commits himself. Davison trashed him over and over on the radio

It is on the record that Frost places a great amount of value on culture for his program. I believe he removed a number of players at UCF that didn't live that culture - some of whom probably were more talented than guys who stayed on.

I'm not suggesting Keyshawn Junior is a bad culture fit. Just a general comment about Frost's past formula for success.

In the past, I've seen several posters get pissed about a "more talented" player not playing. I think in the past, (the collective) we, didn't give coaches leeway when they benched a player, but I hope they don't do so now with Frost.

Trust a coach. Period.

KJJ not coming tells me is there were far too many cooks in the kitchen in Lincoln. Our former head coach says one thing to Key Sr, our former director of player personnel says another to him, our former receivers coach says yet another thing...the last thing Frost needs is a helicopter dad in Lincoln.

Key wanted Riley to coach his kid. When Riley got fired I figured there was a 2% chance he tried to come back to Lincoln. Key made nice for awhile to check out options - as soon as he got a sniff of other options - Little Key was gone. Riley at Oregon St. makes that an option. Not sure what other interest Little Key had but he'll end up somewhere Pops can keep an eye on him. Also someplace that does not keep too close a tabs on smoking the da ganja.

Don't count him out just yet. Suh told Bo that he was leaving when Bo came in. Bo told Suh "bye" and that was a real wake-up call to Suh. Maybe Lamar has the same reaction when he realizes that he isn't the player he thought he was

Well, that narrative sure has changed.

Just once I'd like to see a thread where a kid chooses to play for football for someone other than NU and we don't question his character.

It's not that hard to make a case for KJJ wanting to play for another program. He and his father had a strong connection to Mike Riley and the rest of the staff and now they're gone. Beyond that, he was committed to playing in a pro style offense. Or perhaps he just decided that he wants to stay closer to home. Give the kid a break!

Nonsense I say!

JK, congrats on being what Husker fans claim to be, not what they currently are.

Soooo true. Do as we say not as we do. Sad!!

On KJ - as much as how owns his actions, I feel bad for the kid. Imagine having his dads ego raising you. Kid can’t win. Spare me the millions of dollars his dad makes. These kids are kids with loser/crazy dads.

If he wanted to stay, KJ and KJJ would had their agreement to return honored. So Junior could have committed to stay. Frost owed him nothing more than the opportunity to be on the team on scholarship. At no point to Frost was Junior any more important than a recruit.
I hope it works out for him.

I wonder what all of you taking shots at the kid think about Stan Morgan and Antonio Reed possibly sticking around.

Both of those guys have played, Stan at a high level. I would hope they stay and Stan leaving would be a big loss. As for KJJ, a kid whose dad pulled him from the team because he wasn’t doing things right has only the right to ask to return. NU, IMO was bound to accept that request.
Stan and Reed are at NU to “stick around”, KJJ isn’t.

I suspect there wasn't mutual interest. Maybe a bit slow for the new offense.

Thank you for saying this. We need to be reminded again and again and again and again that Husker fans are knowledgable, gracious, and practice sportsmanship. particularly on this board as they discuss teenagers. Without it, Husker Nation might just as well be any other fan base.

Oh. Ok.

i’m sure him sitting back at home was doing Nebraska all the favors in the world. I’m a Husker fan, not KJJ’s support system..

The bright side of it all is that we no longer have to sit around and wonder if he’ll ever be back..

I would just prefer we say "Best of luck" no matter what we might be thinking and prove we are the best fans in the country.

Well said. But I have to believe he wasn't the right fit in HCSF's culture. GBR!

To be fair....he embarrassed himself over and over on the field.
I’m quite sure Coach Frost won’t make foolish snap judgements like the one you just made. We need as many athletes to stay here and see what they can do with coaches who know what they are doing. Jackson was highly recruited and is a great athlete. Comparing him even remotely to Key Jr — who really did embarrass himself by showing no maturity and not even suiting up — is just silly. Get with the new program.

Jackson has talent, but has to do the work necessary to becoming a good football player. He needs to fulfill his potential.
