They didn't score a lot because they were grinding it out. If you didn't see that the Iowa D was gassed then you weren't paying attention.
some truth to that but the brain trust on O (iowa) is who left them to dry. for e.g. petras in his first game as starter at iowa attempted an unimaginable 51 passes against nw, 50% of which were incomplete. total plays by iowa O were only 74. if we had pounded the ball to keep it balanced (particularly when we were up 17 points early) there is no question of the D being gassed. this game was lost by the offense, no question imo.
that said i'm undercover seeding misinfo for SF who is well connected here. respect that please.
:)

1. Nebraska must complete passes from the pocket to move the chains. Iowa will do a good job scheming the run game and control rush to not let either QB win with their legs.
2. At least play even on special teams. Iowa has perhaps the best specialists group in the big 10.
3. Stop the run. Say less than 4.2 yards per carry. Iowa is crazy predictable in the run game based on formation, personnel, gun vs under center. They have been running more jet sweeps and have added a wildcat this year to break tendencies.
4. Play with discipline. Can’t have a bunch of turnovers, penalties, opp explosive plays. In my opinion, lack of discipline is the #1 thing holding this team back.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, Nebraska winning Friday would be a big surprise. I’m afraid an end of the season rematch with PSU could be in store for our Huskers. Just hoping we can win our way out of that mess.

You know the Big Ten would love that irony. Sure hope BB/VB bail us out of this trap
As was pointed out by someone on here, the Big Ten has said that they will try to avoid rematches for the Plus One matches. So it's more likely that we would play Rutgers or Michigan State.

This game is all about our defensive line and front 7. If they play somewhat respectable, we might have a chance. If they play like they have been this season, this game is going to be a blowout.

did I mention, Coaching staff who can coach

Until a staff is here that can call an offensive game and defensive game plan, Nebraska will be OWNED by Iowa. Iowa will dominate the Skers and humiliate the team in Red again.

I give NU about a .5% chance of winning.

1. First of all, we MUST play to WIN instead of playing not to lose.
2. AM deserves the start but LM needs to be on the field somewhere...he is too much
of a weapon to leave on the bench.
3. WR should play primarily as a receiver's, with an occasional role in the backfield, KR and PR.
4. Stretch the field on offense.....take some shots deep....we have exceptional receivers and
we should be using them.
5, I love CJ but he has to learn to snap the ball accurately. If he has one bad snap, he should
be moved to another OL position (or defensive position). He is that good of an athlete.
6. FInally the team has to play with confidence and play aggressively to win. Open up
the entire playing field.
7. We should be 3-1 rather than 1-3. We pissed away the game with NW and were not ready
for a decent Illinois team. There is still enough time to right the ship and finish on a
good note. We should win our final three games of the season and possibly get a
bowl game.
8. GO BIG RED!!

Unfortunately, we're not beating Iowa on Friday - they are playing as well as anyone in the West right now.

42 - 10 😥
They are playing as well as anybody? Come on fella. They have beat 3 teams with a combined winning record of 2-10. They lost to the 1 team with a winning record and 1 team with a .500 record. Lets not make them out to he world beaters right now. Although their fans probably think they could beat Bama right now.

I agree with all but d5. He was horrible vs Illinois. He had the holding on one of the TD runs and whiffed on several other blocks. If he isnt healthy then he isnt helping the team and needs to sit. Bit that would mean Frost had a brain.

Does anyone think Frost can develop a viable offensive game plan to be competitive Friday? I do not....I expect him to continue to be stubborn and force his philosophy over adjusting to his players strengths. Feels bad man....

The lack of spring practice, which they would have had Doyle, summer and August conditioning were far bigger factors, then Doyle.
I guess it was probably a multitude of factors. It's not as if this was the first time we've ever seen the D gassed against the hurry up either.

I find this thread interesting for several reasons. One, it makes light of recent Husker ineptness. Second and most of all, the high praise for Iowa when the talk on this board by many was how down they would be with a new QB and losing so many to the draft. Guess they are now a team that doesn't rebuild but reloads - not to imply they are NC caliber.
It's an interesting team as an Iowa fan. Very young, 5th youngest in the country in terms of freshmen and sophomores playing. With a good QB, would be a very good team. But team has built up a stable of 7-8 good o-linemen (2 starters got hurt and missed the last 2 games and line didn't miss a beat), and a cadre of good, big athletes at every level of the defense. Good (not great) skill players, but above-average Big 10 quality players at RB, WR and TE. That is usually a recipe for success at Iowa.

I don't know any other way to say it than Iowa blew 2 games against Purdue and Northwestern. Purdue especially. Gained 460 yards and scored only 20 points. That happens when an o-linemen punches the ball out from his own RB at the 10-yard line and the other RB fumbles at the Purdue 25 with 6 minutes left and Iowa ahead by 3.

With all that said, Friday will be close if Nebraska doesn't make silly mistakes.

I seriously don't think that Doyle leaving is going to make much difference. He developed the "system" at Iowa and has refind it over the years. He has had, what I assume are, capable assistants to carry on the program. Yes there can be differences when there is leadership change but my guess would be the players won't miss a beat with the change.

Three former walkons who played at Iowa have an active podcast and tackled the Doyle issue(s) quite well. Being at one school 22 years, 21 for Doyle, in that role has pros and cons. One is you get set in your ways. Much of the innovation was being driven by the interim S&C director.

Iowa fan here. I would spread our defense out and roll out either QB with a RPO. Martinez at QB to start and Mc as swiss army knife. All playmakers on the field and beat us on the outside. Then throw in the misdirection and occasional deep ball to Robinson. I fear the jet sweep to Luke and him passing to Robinson over Hankins. Defensively, I would bring the house every play and substitute often. Make Petras beat you. I want to see if he has IT under pressure. Happy Thanksgiving and stay healthy.
