How did Vince ever play QB for Osborne's offense? I guess Tom didn't yet realize you can't succeed with a pro offense in Nebraska, and even if you could, true Nebraska fans won't be happy about it.:)

I had his girlfriend as a student teacher in my 5th or 6th grade class... he came to recess and threw us some footballs.
never forget that.

TO intentionally evolved to offense to an option based attack. The more minutes he could keep OU's wishbone off the field, the better chance he had of winning.

Somehow Tagge still got 2 rings.

To quote TO

“I would have a hard time, I think, coaching without some elements of the option, I really do. And I would have a very hard time coaching without a quarterback who could run.”

He was comfortable winning the way he wanted to coach. I don't know that he ever claimed that the way he wanted to coach, was the way it should be done always, forever and ever, Amen.

As I recall The Prince is the only NU quarterback to ever play QB in a super bowl.

That's pretty much true. David Humm was on a couple of Raider teams that made the Super Bowl, but I think he only got into those games as a holder.

No Super Bowl, but Jerry Tagge got some spot playing time with Green Bay in '72 to '74
