Kevin Wilson heading to Ohio State as OC

Wow. I know he's had great offenses, but I wonder how the Buckeye faithful will take to his pass-first offense. tOSU's history and fan base are similar to ours in that their best success has been with smashmouth offenses, and the fans like that identity. My impression has been that Beck/Warriner's finesse approach frustrated them.

Wilson coached AP, Jordan Howard (plus one other IU RB who was good), but the dude is an Air Raid OC. Interesting to see how that plays out in Columbus.

He had to air it out with an undermanned team at Indiana. Like any coach who has been around, he knows the value of a running game and Urban will be sure he does.

This is what Meyer said after the loss to Clemson: "We will become a good passing team, we will. Next year.”

Yeah, this doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but Urb's spread is way different than Hal Mumme's.

I guess I'm happy he's going in this direction. He's had great qb play going all the way back to Josh Harris at Bowling Green. He made Alex Smith a #1 pick. Leak, Tebow, Miller... I always thought (while extraordinarily talented) Urb's spread option gave them opportunities to make plays even if their they were off throwing the ball. Herman (total anomaly - wiz kid had good offense at rice then ISU), Beck/Warnier (needed a very accurate passer in reising), and now Wilson are all really dependent on qbs throwing for high percentages. Wilson has had some good qbs (2 heisman winners!), but the styles don't feel like a fit.

I've always really liked Wilson's offense. And I agree with @OO Snipes , I think It has a potential to be a nightmare for opposing Defenses with the talent they have up there.

Wilson throws the ball more but he also has a couple of nice RBs in the league.

I believe the two will mesh nicely.

I always thought his offense looked way more organized than anything Beck put on the field. I agree. I think he'll be great up there.

Whats amazing is all the talk about how OSU and Iowa need to get their passing games going - while so many on here have been pointing to them as examples of why we should give up the pass.

The difference is Iowa and OSU have had generally more pro-style attacks for many years. While the run game is central at Iowa, they haven't exactly been running an option style attack with 80/20 run pass ratios with guys like Tate, Stanzi, Beathard, etc. Their most mobile QB was probably Banks, and even his game was pass first, run when needed.

Their fan bases generally sound like NFL fan bases, which generally desire to balance out ability to run and throw depending on what looks are being taken away. This is not the case with our fan base, as "predicated on the run" seems to necessariliy imply that the QB must be mobile, or we must run a billion percent of the time.

Ok. So according to CFB stats, we rushed for basically 30 less YPG than Wisconsin and an average of 7 less rushing attempts per game. We are 10 YPG behind Iowa, but more or less, two carries a game more on average.

In terms of YPC, we had 4.2 to Wisconsin's 4.32

For Run the Damn Ball Guy, we are not entirely on a different planet than the bell cow program in our division for running the football. In fact, given the fact that we had a craptastic offensive line and they had a frosh QB they were protecting with a run game moreso than a Russell Wilson, those results are a little surprising.

Wonder if JT Barrett will switch positions like Braxton did? I think Burrows will be a better fit at QB for OSU moving forward.

Didn't a UI back lead the BIG in rushing a couple years ago and last year's back that transferred from some southern school that was discontinuing football have over 1000 yards?
Yeah, Tevin Coleman and Jordan Howard, both productive NFL backs

i viewed indy as more of a running team the last few years. Jordan Howard was amazing last year. i scratched my head for like 3 rounds of the nfl draft wondering why no one was taking him. its like nfl scouts never watched him play. halfway through the season, hes starting of course.

My reference in Wilson throwing more was as compared to Ohio St. and Urban. His QBs haven't always been as mobile as Urban's

I don't care who their offensive coordinator is. A lot of very good teams have a lot of very good coaches. That is why they are very good teams.

My only concern is that Nebraska is on that list too.

Is this for sure? Wilson is going to Ohio State or are we just speculating?
