I live out-of-state and read in the paper Kautz's 100 and 200 times at his district track meet. I am wondering if anyone on the board knows what the weather conditions were that day. His 200m time is pretty respectable for a freshman if it isn't wind blown.

Hell 21.7 is impressive for a freshman no matter what. Also ran a 10.9 in the 100.

Also Engelhaupt (2016 Husker football recruit) ran a 15.5 in the 110's. And was on the 4x100 team that got second with a time of 43.88.

21.7 is impressive for any age. Man, that's fast. Especially considering he "only" went 10.9 in the 100. Should be fun to watch over the next few years.

Pretty good for a freshman. Congrats Dylan!

Looking at pictures from the meet I was shocked at how he looked body type wise ....looked short and stocky did not expect that

Correct he was limited due to a flare up in his back I think and yes he is only about 5'8 not a tall lad in the least

I started this topic and want to add a little bit of additional information. I was asking if Kautz's times were wind blown at the meet that he ran the sub 22 second 200. A 20 mph wind at your back in the 100 or 200 can do wonders to your times. I'll give you an example. One year when I was the head track coach at Sidney for boys and girls, our district meet was at Alliance. We had decent sprinters but not outstanding. A 20 to 25 mph wind helped our girls run times that were .3 to .4 tenths faster than they had ever run. On Monday the Omha World Herald called me and said they were picking us to win the girls' championship because our sprinters were going to score a lot of points as the paper compared districts' times. I told the writer that his calculations were inaccurate due to the wind. At the state meet, we ran our normal times and never scored in the 100 or 200. We did have a girl win the high jump with a Gold Medal jump of 5' 8", we had two very strong relays, and a good 400 runner so we finished runner-up.

I in no way was putting Kautz's down. He is impressive. I wonder if he has stopped growing because he is an early maturing young man or will he continue to get bigger? I've seen too many girls who as seniors can't match the times they ran as freshmen but only a few boys who had this problem.

Well, I haven't met his mom, but his dad is pretty short, so I don't believe he has much heighth to gain and would agree that he might be done growing.

I can't agree more with what you said about girls not being better as a senior vs a freshman. I know many girls that performed their best their junior year and regressed as seniors in both basketball and track.

One example-My coworker knew Tiana Reeves (sp?) of Gothenburg in junior high and knew she would dominate in high school, which she did (she won state long jump and triple jump by more than a foot multuple years 2014 & 2015 I believe) but her impressive numbers dropped her senior year even. It happens all too often in high school sports.

I would imagine Dylan will improve his times, but not substantially as I agree he is probably done growing. I know his dad's old hometown was proud and were paying attention and getting updates throughout the track season on Facebook.
