Kade Warner possible walkon add

I hope he does walk on. He will probably never be anything special, but he would add a little depth.

I understand the desire for something special (it seems to come up with every position group), but NU's biggest need right now is consistency.

Arguably, we've lived and died by the "special" plays that are all too irregular (the Reilly circus catches and the like).

If we ever get to the point where we're regularly playing with the big boys and losing on a key play or two where a Clowney or a Julio Jones would have been the difference, that would be the more akin to the amount of coverage this issue gets.

I hope he chooses us. How does a kid with that size, sets state records and is the son of an NFL hall of famer not get a single scholarship offer.

The kid averaged 60 catches a year four a four year HS career. His dad is a HOF player. Chances are the kid is a good football player. He's not a freak athlete. But neither was Todd Peterson, but he turned out to be a pretty solid receiver for us. The kid could easily be a reliable back up in a couple of years.

I heard Kurt Warner on the radio last week talking about this at the end of an interview about his pending HOF vote (might have been the Doug Gottlieb show on CBS sports radio) .

It came through loud and clear that Kade does not have the measurables that a lot of schools are looking for (Kurt devoted several comments to the effect of 'too much emphasis is being places on measurables') but is a grinder / worker type.

Kurt was pretty obviously miffed that his kid did not receive a schollie offer.

He mentioned 3 or 4 schools that Kade would be visiting to check out walking on. I was waiting to hear him mention Nebraska but he did not.

Its amazing how many of these HOF guys (Kevin Greene and Warner come to mind) have kids that don't quite measure up or are kids that schools take flyers on.

Kurt was not a guy that was going to scare you with his feet and his kid plays WR. At least on film, he looks pretty slow for WR BUT he has very good hands, seems to get open and at least in his clips makes people miss. Definitely not fast but you have to catch the ball first and he does that very well.

Watched his Hudl film and the kid can play! For someone who doesn't have great measurables, he definitely can catch and had some very impressive runs after the catch (great vision and determination). I also think it would help in the recruiting pitch to parents when Les Miles, Keyshawn, and HOF QB Kurt Warner all send their own sons to NU.

The key to his families success, is to work in a grocery store. Any grocery stores in Lincoln?
My wife and one of my nephews once worked in the grocery business in Lincoln. Maybe they can put in a good word.

Agree. Makes for a great storyline and he could turn out be something special.

You should get on it, so Tv can inform us of his level of work ethic, and commitment to the game. On his way to a HOF career!

My first job was in a grocery store. While in Lincoln, I worked at DaVinci's making hot hoagies and pizza delivery.

They know dad can pay so they talk to him about walking on. Hes not good enough like keyshawn jr to warrant a scholly in their mind. If he were poor he woulda got some offers. Ive seen this.

I would love to have him just because his father is a complete class act. The more of these types that are associated with the program, the better IMO. Provides great talking points for game announcers and just attracts more positive press.

Me too. Like him or not, his story is still one of the best in this history of the NFL.

Kade will be visiting. Former coach (Tushaus) is a grad asst on NU staff. His old man can rather easily write a check for tuition and room/board. Two star on 247 and Scout, NR on rivals. No FBS offers, but is the AZ record holder for receptions with 241. Would be a very nice add to our WR room. At 6-2, he does bring some tall.

We just had the Illinois record holder for receptions graduate as one of our top receivers. So this could have an upside surprise.

Absolutely! Can you see Les Miles, Kurt Warner and Keshawn having a little chat on our game day sidelines??? That would be sick! And the fact that Kurt was such a late bloomer may indicate the same for his son. He could end up being a total stud. I see nothing but positive here and I hope we pull out all the stops to get him.

I'm down for a solid possession receiver, change of pace guy. Different kind of WR compared to KJJ, Jaevon, and especially Tyjon. Keep defenses on their toes. Big play potential but can also grab the underneath 5-15 yards when we need. If our pass game itself can keep a defense on it's toes, our run game could do wonders.

If he can run a good route he doesnt need to be a burner. Just needs to be able to make some space and catch the ball.

Soooo true, one of my son's friends ran a 5.36 40 at a combine we went to together. He started at Stanford for 3 years and now plays for the Bengals. Some people play fast.

If that's true that's terrible. A lot of OL run faster than that at the combine.

I just watched his film too and wow... so many times I thought he would get tackled, but he did a couple moves and ran for a TD.

Many times a player that understands the game, can read a defense, and knows how to get open is more valuable than a receiver with speed that cannot do the aforementioned things. I don't know if he can do these things, but with a slower 40 time, he can make up for it by being football smart.

Might add, you can also train speed. The 40 measurement has worked well over time, but it is over 40 yards. Shuttle times and other things have developed; but many grads take work at " institutes " , to prepare for NFL testing pre-draft and improve their times, even that late in the process.

I have no issue with Kade Warner walking on at Nebraska, but our board has gone pretty potato here. He might end up as Special teams contributor 3 or 4 years from now, tops. He is not a Big Ten Caliber football player, and there is a reason why his only offers were to schools like Azusa Pacific, Arizona Christan, Western New Mexico, and Western Oregon. The University of San Diego has offered him a spot, but they are a Non Scholarship FCS program. He's a D2 caliber player, much like a lot of Nebraska's other back up walk on receivers.

And while his film looks good, keep in mind lots of walkons have great high school film. That's why they're invited to walk on. And believe it or not, most D2 players had great high school careers, regardless of their level of high school.

His speed or lack thereof is really a limiting factor. Too bad he doesn't play QB.Winking

His 40 time is 4.89, that's slow for a TE. What am I missing?

Well at least on his HUDL clips he seems to get open, has very good hands, and makes people miss. He looks quicker than 4.9. Not gonna outrun many people, but he would catch passes and could maybe increase his quickness in a weight program. I do remember that Roy Helu had a listed Rivals 40 time of 4.7 so there is the possibility of his listed 40 time not being accurate.
