Tell me if I am wrong...
On offense, our weakest link is our pass catchers. WRs, TEs, and RBs to a degree. Our inability to make the big time catch is killing us. All missed crucial catches that would have changed the course of the game. Williams better get his nephews right, or this is going to be a worse season than we thought.
On defense, any corner not named Jones. Our CBs are softer than charming ultra. I have never witnessed so many broken tackles. It was either a LB or a safety making the tackle. Donte better get this group coached up fast. This is a mans game, and it isn't high school anymore. As a CB you NEED to be able to tackle.
Gotta say though, I was impressed by how well our OL played against Wisky. They ran the ball well, and about the only time Oz got stuffed was when they brought the house. If someone told me we would run for nearly a hundred in the first half alone, I would tell him we won. And no sacks? Impressive. Yes, Lee got hit a couple times and had to evade pressure, but they kept him upright for 90% of the game.
Jaimes played one hell of a game. That kid is golden. He has gotten even better than when I saw him in the playoffs a year ago. As I have said ever since he committed, he is the single most impactful OL signee we have gotten in the past decade. I honestly can't remember the last True Left Tackle we recruited. If he can hold up that well, underweight, against one of the best defenses in all of CFB going forward, he has the potential to be one of the top 5 best OTs to ever play here.
Lightbourn is the Most Improved Player on the roster. Hands down. Kid is money. At least Reads 450 was worth something. Brown disappointed me. Can't miss points in a close game. When we get in FG range, we have to come away with points. Return game should continue to improve.
Next week is a different animal. We are more than likely going to get torched by Zone Dix and Barrett. It's going to be a shootout, and our offense will have to be perfect to keep up. Unfortunately, our offense won't be able to keep up. Ozigbo average 4.5 a pop, but we will have to punt a few times and end up playing catch up by the second half. Lee will get sacked at least twice. We will make a silly turnover twice. Receivers will make some plays and some crucial drops against an OSU secondary that isn't the elite unit it has been, but ultimately those DBs will get two picks.
The defense will hold up against the interior run game, but OSU will exploit our weak tackling on the edges. OSU run game will average 7 ypc. Our defense will come up with one turnover but it won't be enough.
We lose 49-24. At least we keep it respectable this time.
Just my couple pennies for the week.
