Battle of #1 in 6A and #1 in 5A in Missouri. Game at CBC.
First play for CBC, Babb took a jet sweep 75 yards for a TD while breaking 2-3 tackles, but it was called back on a penalty. Chaminade got its running game going and was up 13-0 in 2nd quarter when they dropped a 4th down pass as they were getting close to going up by 20.
Cameron Brown, the other junior WR for CBC, then caught 2 TD passes to tie it late in the 1st half. Babb nearly had one in the closing seconds, but a diving catch in the end zone saw the ground jar it loose. Great effort. Second half, both Brown and Babb scored as CBC pulled away. Both are just stud WRs. I know Brown is on the radar, but he impresses me as much as Babb does.
Brett Gabbert again looked very good at QB for CBC, and only a sophomore! He is the real deal, and impresses me more than his brothers did at this stage. His long throws are tight spirals and on target, plus he can scramble well and seems very smart (knows where the 1st down markers for example).
Trout looked the DT part, but I did not see any big plays like a sack or anything (maybe I missed one though). He set up all along the line, and also was a TE on offense once in a while.
On a side note, Chaminade has a lineman they list at 6'2" and 400 lbs. He is every bit that big, but actually moved well for that size. He made Trout look skinny.
