Take this FWIW because he is playing rec pick-up. Which means two things:
1. He probably is playing at about a 40% level (In terms of effort).
2. Playing against lesser competition, bad habits are developed.
Here is my analysis:
Pros - Hard to gauge his true athleticism because of his effort, but he showed flashes of elite athletic ability. Very smooth player. His shot release is great and he does a good job of creating his own shot. If he is open, has his feet set, and receives a pass in rhythm, it's going in. Can get hot quick. I was on his team and we were down early. He tried a bit harder and just took over - making 3 consecutive 3's. Strength is there. Confidence is definitely there.
Needs Improvement - Needs to tighten up his handles. Got picked a couple of times by amateurs. Needs to be more precise with his decision making. Too much dancing at times. He could get away with that at the rec, but that ain't flying in the B1G. Needs to get in better shape. Was complaining about being tired after 3 or 4 games (minimal effort).
Bottom line: he has the potential to be a great SG for us over the next few years. I could see him averaging about 15-20 a game for us. Shooting above 40% from 3. One thing we probably won't have to worry about is him leaving early for the NBA. Needs much improvement before that can be discussed.
One additional note: I was pleasantly surprised with Bakari Evelyn. Very smooth. Great handles. Super athletic. Can get to the rim. Raw, but has the potential to be a perfect role player.
