I don't believe a) he's on their list or b) that he would up and move again, but... let's just pretend LSU came knocking for Coach Riley.

What would your reaction be? Would you be upset and hope Nebraska pays to keep him or would you be fine with him leaving since many on the board weren't that thrilled with the hire in the first place and many put him on the hot seat after a 6-7 first season?

First In!

Of course I would expect us to do everything we can to keep him. Mike Riley has done an outstanding job and has us headed in the right direction fast.

Not sure what you mean...

First, relieved that he's leaving? Or that we would do everything to keep him because we are headed in the right direction?

For me, we need to keep him. Too many positive signs to say good riddance.

LSU has zero interest in Mike Riley and he would have zero interest in LSU...simply from a personality fit stand point.

LSU wantsHerman or Briles.

Besides Briles obvious issues, the man was a great coach who never built a defense (besides the miracles he performed elsewhere in the Baylor program with recruiting, offense, etc).

Be a shame to pay all that money, and still lose to Nick Saban every year.

Why not a third option, disappointed, but not willing to play the silent auction game for a coach I'm not entirely sold on.

Briles has only been asked if he has interest as an offensive consultant.

First to vote in the poll. I should probably edit it to make that more clear.

First off, no way in HELL LSU offers Riley the job. Secondly, no way in hell Riley leaves. He doesn't want to coach too much longer and has his pieces building up for his swan song

See ya!

I don't think anyone would really care all that much if he left. He has way more bad losses than good wins. Plus, think of the unknown and who the Huskers might end up with.

The USC job, if open, would probably be a much more appealing move for him than LSU. He may not be worth $5M yet but he's light years ahead of our prior coach and would like to keep him around for awhile.

What makes this such a good question to me is that we are undefeated at this point. Also, pony up and LSU together could mean highest tier coaching search.

Will Riley win us conference championships, playoffs berths, national championships. I would say too early to tell. If an honest discussion leads to Riley being on the top of the coach wishlist, we'd keep him, otherwise we'd let him go.

I wouldn't be relieved, but I'd say let him go. Too many unknowns if you're willing to pay top tier money.

I voted we keep him there's a certain calm around this football program with him in charge

I don't see riley as a cagun, I would think they would go after that houston or tcu coach.
I don't see urban or saban moving.

This is not even a good hypothetical in my eyes because I doubt Mike has any interest in another program like that. He's not going anywhere and in all likelihood will be here until he is ready to retire or is forced out.. whichever comes first.

If for some weird reason, he wanted to go, then he goes.. there is no reason to get into some bidding war. If you are searching for a coach and he cares about a few more dollars here or there, that's not the kind of guy you want anyways. So again, this poll doesn't even make sense to me.

You grant his request to pony up more money (not for him), but for his assistants/other support staff.

I think we're watching the start of a new era in Husker Football that's going to be very special. I'm ready to see how this plays out.

They wouldn't hire Riley. First off all not a big name, hasn't accomplished anything significant in his career (average coach, and too old.

Just because he's not "all that" in the eyes of some husker fans doesn't mean he isn't highly thought of and sought after by other programs. He is more than just average to people in the know, as opposed to those who think they are in the know...

I do agree that his age may not make him the most attractive any longer, but how can anyone say big time programs don't want him because he's average when USC and Bama both wanted him when he was younger?

I think LSU would be interested in him and I would not be shocked if they do ask about his interest. I just don't understand why so many Husker fans feel like he is irreplaceable all of a sudden.

Before it was "Husker football is bigger than the coach"...no all of a sudden it is not?

I like Riley but if he got a better offer and thought it was a better fit then he should go and try it. I am sure Nebraska would end up just fine with another quality coach. Maybe one that is even better.

Context matters... you claimed most wouldn't miss him but the results of the poll say otherwise. By a large margin in fact.
Miss him? It doesn't say that at all...it says offer him more money and try to get him to stay.

I would not miss him, I would not sit there at home thinking about him and shedding a tear. Would you?

If he wanted to leave and felt it was better for him I would be happy for the game and wish him luck.

I think the excitement stems from how he runs the program and has an uncanny ability to make everyone feel good no matter what side of the fence you are on. He has brought some healing and calm to this team that isn't to be underestimated.

At the same time, even with improvement defensively, I still worry about too many open receivers. Yes, we are 4-0 and ranked 15th, but until we make it through the rest of this season I remain worried about what kind of team we have.

I don't know if he is the best possible coach for us. But I do believe that at this time, he sure feels like it. If he left, we could do a lot worse. Could we do better? Maybe, but it's not a sure thing in my book. I hate having to say time will tell, but that seems to be where we are at.

Sorry for reading into your post what wasn't there, and thanks for this post. It helps clarify things for me.

Sure, the unselfish part of me would wish him luck if he had an offer he couldn't refuse... but I do have a bit of selfishness in me as well and would hope he stays and completes the turnaround (assuming he is the guy who can do it).

No problem!

I hope he wins it all here at NU!
