Westy should break the single season receptions mark this week. He may get the season yards mark against Iowa. I also expect him to set the career receptions and yards mark mid next season.

Season Receiving record (receptions):
2008 Nate Swift 63 rec. (941 yards)
* Westerkamp 58 rec.

Season Receiving record (yards)
1972 Johnny Rodgers 942 yards
* Westerkamp 801 yards

Career Receiving record (receptions & yards):
2011-2014 Kenny Bell 181 rec. 2689 yards
* Westerkamp 122 rec. 1831 yards

Well deserved. JW may not be the most talented WR we have ever had (Fryar, Bell, etc), but he is simply the best WR to ever play at Nebraska.

(unless you consider Johnny Rodgers a WR).

Westy has been awesome for a long time. In years to come, when we're sitting in the stands being entertained by "remember (insert name here)" video's during TV timeouts, he will get a huge reaction, as he should. My favorite Husker for the last few years and I hate saying that because I am not trying to disrespect anyone else...but he is awesome.

Dude has phenomenal hands, is tough as nails, runs great routes, is faster than he gets credit for, and comes up big in the clutch a lot. Also, he rocks some interesting facial hair sometimes. Westerkamp is one of the best I've seen at DONU in my lifetime. What's not to like?
Not sure what you mean about great routes. He sometimes does not run in perfect right angles when setting up inside/outside leverage on defenders. I can't believe our coaches have not corrected it.

When a guy is consistently open and found by his QB as much as JW is, I find it hard to believe he runs poor routes.

463, that's because JW doesn't run near the sidelines. If he ran sideline routes the angle of his route would most certainly be correct.

Don't take the bait, crush... look at other previously locked threads before swallowing the hook! Cool

Doesn't Marlon Lucky hold the single season reception record?

I think Westy has a legit chance of being an NFL receiver. His skill set matches up with the Welkers, Edelmans, Beasleys and Amendolas of the world. Yes, I recognize that I called out all three white receivers, but there is something similar about the route running, hands and ability to run after catch that these guys have that seems different from others.

When will the racism stop!

Hard to believe Westy is only a junior. Can't believe we have another year with Tommy throwing to him and the other young receivers. If we could solidify the output from our running backs, this offense could be pretty deadly next season.

Let's hope the D takes a major step forward too and some recruits/younger guys get on the field, and you never know what could happen.

Who's your favorite kakdawg? In my era I loved Reggie Baul, Corey Dixon and Abdul Muhammed.

I dont think I could vote for Westy over Fryar. Westy is a very good WR. He is quick,smart and his hands dont take a back seat to any Huskers in history. That said he simply doesnt have a guy like Fryars level of athleticism and speed which will limit his ceilng to a degree..

I like your list of guys as well. I was a huge fan of guys like Dixon and Muhammed. They were explosive guys who could stretch defenses and make big plays. That said they werent as polished as Westy is.

Like I said Westy is a very good WR and we havent had too many in our history . I just think Fryar as an all around guy was better as he could offer a bit more as a deep threat and outside guy as well.

Different kinda WRs for sure but imo Fryar was better. Didnt see Rodgers so cant say for him.

holla

What, no love for Guy 'The Fly' Ingles?

Actually, IMHO it's a close call between Fryar and Westbrook. 1a and 1b in my book.
