Johnny The Jet supports coach Riley, and fires shot at Pelini

Riley is the guy for this job. And that is being that calm presence in this tumultuous time. I'm still holding out hope that the players can right this emotional ship they're on.

He's speaking of the present.
The bloners like to trash the true legends (champs) of the programs history. First Frazier, now Rodgers. But Kenny Bell is a genius (forget the fact that he never won anything of note)... hmmm. I know who I would want to teach future Huskers, and it sure is hell aint #80 mcfiberglass.

Hey Johnny where are you selling your autograph this week, keep living off history....

Dude, that comment kind of sucks. Not saying you suck, you might, IDK, but why in the world would you hold his autograph sessions against him? Does he not deserve to trade on his name and accomplishments until the day he dies? Is there a time limit one can do that? It isn't like you have to partake in it, I wouldn't, but who the heck are we to tell one of the greatest Huskers of all time that he shouldn't be able do that?

One answer, he didn't play for Peelini.

I agree with you to a certain extent, but I do think Johnny Rodgers does exploit it. Nobody is debating he is one of the best Huskers of all time, but personally when I lived in Nebraska and growing up I was tired of Johnny because I thought he was milking it. With that said, I like his comments about Bo. Spot on.

I'm sitting here right now looking at my diploma hanging on the wall, my many framed awards and achievements, and yes, my framed picture of Johnny the Jet I paid $10 for about 10 years ago. It shows my Cornhusker pride to all who see it and makes me happy to have it hanging there. If you don't like it, don't buy one.

Really don't think his comments about Bo being bad for people mentally is even mildly surprising to anyone who even half followed the team.

As for Rodgers, I know he has signed countless autographs for free (including for both my kids) and has been very friendly in every situation I've seen him in. He's even said the Heisman is the state's trophy, not just his. So I have no problem with making a buck occasionally off it. Others do it a lot more than he does.

you do realize that the entire program, the fanbase, including you and me are living off history at this point .. its been a long, long time since we even flirted with relevance, the only thing that even remotely makes Nebraska football recognizable is its history

You are correct. We have been living in the past for many years now. Time to go pop in a vcr tape from the 94, 95, and 97 seasons. Winking

What makes you think Riley is the man for the job?

You don't mess with the Jesus.

Jr signed a hat for me and I asked if that was his Heisman ring he was wearing and he said yea and took it off and handed it to me to look at. Never ask for a penny and was super nice this was about about 12 years ago mm

The people that hated Bo so much like you also can't see Riley is a miss. You guys keep bringing up Bo, and he doesn't matter anymore. The guy is gone. It goes the other way too if you liked Bo. He is history. There are some depth issues on this team, but we have enough talent to be 7-1 or 8-0 right now. This schedule up to this point is as weak of a schedule we have had in a long time. A quality coach would have came in and had a winning record at this point. It looks like Eichorst reached and missed when there were plenty of better candidates than Riley to pick from. The guy should have never got to pick a coach without a search committee in the first place, but that is what you get with his incompetent one man search. I think the Bo haters have so much invested in hating Bo that any coach would be better. You guys can't seem to see the obvious. Riley and a good portion of his staff is not very good. You don't have to worry about getting back to the top 10 continually with him. We will be worrying about making a bowl on a continual basis now.

Alot of former players dont think so. I think the vast majority of sentiment we see out of anyone with any relation to the program is "we have to give time and see" or outright pro Riley.

I've yet to see a former player or coach that says we *obviously* need to dump Riley *now* or face the consequences.

Bo IS relevant because it adds context to our problems with our depth and talent level. We're making complete scheme changes on offense in particular and that is something that Bo didn't have to deal with since Osborne made him retain Watson. BO left us the deficiencies at LBer and DE. BO left us with corners that have difficulty playing man coverage. Riley addressed the LBer and DE deficiencies as best he could with this last year's class and he's hitting it hard this year with one JUCO in the fold and more being pursued. On top of the depth issues, we've had multiple games where over HALF OF OUR PROJECTED STARTERS ON DEFENSE IN THE SPRING have either transferred, been kicked off, been suspended or been injured. UNTIL he can fill some of the holes left by Bo, he should get a pass on the win/loss record.

Why should he get a pass? We have had just as much talent on the field vs everyone we've played. Miami didnt impress me as much as others but I'll give you that if you want it. We're 3-5. I'm not giving RIley a pass.

We are better than 3 wins on the talent level. Keep telling yourself we have no talent if it makes you feel better. The corners were just fine last year and were highly ranked in many passing categories. Pelini played a match up man zone, so don't bring the we just have some zone corners talk. Our D-coordinator is garbage. It's fine, Pelini is gone, but we don't have the staff in place to get where most Husker fans want us to be. Years of mediocrity should tell you that. The point is a lot of Pelini haters are relying on Riley to be better, and he has never shown any evidence he will be. Th hire was a reach. Before the season, it was Bo sucked as a coach and had talent. You can go read articles, blogs, and tweets and see this. I remember reading this was the most talent Riley has ever had to coach while in college football: The predictable part is since Riley is losing now it is all talent. It can't be Riley is a poor coach. In a few years, hopefully we get it right.

LOVE THIS!

Former players? Check! Former Coaches? Check! Majority of the fan base? Check!

I hope the rest of the folks that are being super negative get on board.

@Archie Graham have you ever met @Rufus Barchetta ? I get the feeling you two would get along great as eternal optimists. This is in no way a dig, I can appreciate unbridled support of DONU. GBR!

Noticing more noise and support from former players then ever before. Why is this? All we heard about the BC regime was "the coaches don't know who we are (former players)"

Don't recall them supporting Bo in times of blowout disgrace. Been wondering why they are so vocal now. Is it just a twitter symptom? Think it might have more to do with the fact that they are seeing their championship scheme on D and they're out supporting that.

What makes you think Riley is the man for the job?

Because I'm the guy who was at least four years ahead of the Bo curve. Plus his coaching is keeping us in these game. The injuries... the depth problem... the Bo problem. Remember this is the same team who had a reputation of getting run out of a stadium against average teams. Riley is the man for the job.

This can't be a serious statement. I forgot, ultimate troll. Thats on me for getting sucked in again

Bo is a horrible coach but he was smart enough to hide his team's glaring weaknesses. He also was smart enough to beg to be fired before this season.

Get on Board with the worst coach in the NCAA / this guy is horrific.

Your talent arguments don't work against Purdue !!
