He played well in the Spring game.
Ha so did Purdy. And AJ Rollins, never to see the field again.
Purdy is built for spring games. AJ Rollins needs to see the field more and Butler was a promising young player who would’ve gotten meaningful snaps at some point.
He made some plays I think late this year. He’s another guy who Chin really confused with his illogical D calls. Pretty talented kid IMO who could run
Rollins needs to step up this year. Need him to become a factor
Damn- I thought Butler still had potential and fit Rhule’s athletic build prototype.
Dissapointing. I saw him move around really well during warmups.

NU has been featuring mostly 4 man fronts for the past two years. Nelson ended up with 2nd team B1G and Mathis was playing better towards the end of the season. They work better in a 4-3. NU needs a couple of guys out of the portal for depth, or at least one in addition to Gunnerson.
Ouch. I thought he seemed like the perfect for for Rhule too of all players.

I thought he showed promise and looked to be in line for more PT with Tannor and Mathis (probably) gone.
And if Callahan had it right (I know that's iffy) Nelson might be on the move too
I don't know what some are seeing besides his height and weight which seems appealing.
I always wondered why he didn't play more. Then I saw how he moved in what game snaps he got this year. Moves like most of you guys if any are 6'5". Didnt seem to move like a 6'5" athlete. Huge difference.

He played some this year due to injuries. Very athletic young pup. And yes he does move around well.
He has exactly the prototypical build Rhule looks for, and perhaps with Rhule, he could have really come along. I don't think it's good he's leaving.
yea kinda fast and fluid, just a little more honing of his talents. learning the tricks, skills and stronger
This. He only played one year of HS football, skills were raw but he has the athletic ability. Needed someone to develop it.

At 6'5" 245#, he is somewhat limited in the positions he could play on defense.
He may be a kid who insists on playing defense, however, at his size and with really good speed, I would have liked them to see if the kid could catch the ball cause he might have developed into a helluva TE.
I hope we go back to the 4-3 or 4-2-5. Ive never liked the 3-4.

Now that the DC has been named, Butler may re-evaluate. But the portal machine is going to really start to purr soon. There may be players occupying his position by Christmas.
