https://saturdaytradition.com/nebra...-nebraskas-mike-riley-coolest-coach-football/ That’s right, Rome considers the 64-year-old Riley to be a “sneaky” cool guy who is extremely in touch with his players.
Riley certainly caught attention after purchasing tickets to a Kendrick Lamar concert for each of his players. Taking a photo with the rap artist afterwards was just icing on the cake.

As if that wasn’t enough, Rome pointed to Riley’s pinned tweet on his Twitter account, which is a picture of the Nebraska coach with Chance the Rapper.

Maybe Rome is on to something here. And maybe that’s why Nebraska’s recruiting classes are starting to jump up in the rankings. Everyone wants to play for the coolest coach in the country.

It is great that Riley embraces this stuff - but do you really think all this is Riley's idea? -

Obviously the recruiting coordinators or younger assistants tell Riley to go over and stand by that guy with the ridiculous hat with the number 3 on it so we can take your picture and he does it or can we buy tickets to a concert of this guy you have never heard of - trust us the players and recruits will love it

major kudos to Riley for endorsing this but I doubt he is rolling up to practice with his beats on listening to chance the rapper in a tricked out prius

Riley gets it -- god I hope he succeeds here - so easy to like the guy

I doubt Riley is big on the new fangled music, but is smart enough to roll with it. And he seems to be having fun with it, which is kind of hard to fake.

I have a feeling the kids know kendrick may not be his style, but i get the feeling they know he's sincere about who he is.

This is one of those times where I wish you would just enjoy the ride and say, "That's cool!"

Instead, you can't help but tell us Riley isn't behind any of this, it's his handlers... and good on him for following along.

Just enjoy the ride... please.

I doubt he's really a fan of either Chance the Rapper or Kendrick Lamar, but I also give him a little more credit than to think he's totally clueless and just being told to do this stuff by somebody else. The way you set it out, it's as if he's completely out of the loop and he could be told to stand by just about anybody and get a picture taken with them or buy tickets to just about anybody as long as he's being told it's somebody the players will like.

you really think I was bagging on Riley ??????????????
Just also want to give some credit to the recruiting coordinators who get absolutely no recognition

I truly apologize if this is taken as a shot at Riley ... I can see why some may have read it that way .. not my intentions at all

It shows he cares about what they like more than what he likes, impossible not to like the guy that does that for you.

He is just the kinda dorky guy who players know he cares so much about them that he's willing to get out of his comfort zone and be that somewhat awkward guy that acts like he listens to rap and such. This is clearly one of his best qualities as a HC and why players/recruits dig Mike Riley.

I didn't think you were necessarily taking a shot at Riley, and I did see the kudos you gave him, I guess I didn't understand the need to say what you said in the first place. People already knew that Riley isn't likely a big Kendrick fan.

Yeah, it felt like a bit of a shot at Riley, so I appreciate you clarifying. Sorry for the sensitivity...

Riley wouldn't be coaching if he wasn't having fun. I bet the whole Lamar thing from planning getting the tickets for the players, announcing it to them, getting a Polaroid with the rapper, and getting the props he deserved for it was a blast.

Maybe he will put that picture in his slide projector?
