everyone begging for a transfer QB:

Sam Hartman was perhaps the highest rated and most experienced transfer QB of all time

our offense is averaging more ppg (22.5) than ND (22.25) over each teams' last 4 games

He’s back home at his dream job. Freeman is still waiting for OSU job to open up

Notre Dame has played Louisville #25, Ohio State #6, Duke #17 and Central Michigan (41-17), this is not a relevant comparison to Nebraska's last 4 teams played with exception of Michigan of course.

Besides, why wouldn't you want someone to come in a compete for a starting job? Isn't that what we should want, competition?

I want competition everywhere

simply pointing out the reality of the portal as it pertains to 1st year QBs

they pretty much all struggle at their new school

I want to like and agree with this sentiment. But the Top 10 is littered with transfer QB’s:

Texas
Oregon
Washington
USC
Oklahoma

none of those are in their first year like people here act like will magically solve the offense next season

all fell short of expectations in their 1st year aside from Williams (and maybe Penix who had no expectations) who had his coach also go with him

I don't expect us to get a coach/QB combo in the portal, just like I don't expect some non-existent savior to appear

Haarberg's the guy going forward. people need to get used to it. this is Rhule's formula

Hartman is struggling because ND went 1-2 against ranked teams this year. And those losses are all on Hartman, couldn't be because team is struggling (i.e. OL)?

How about DJ Uiagalelei Oregon State transfer from Clemson, Mordecai at Wisconsin or Leary at Kentucky? Rhule struck out with Sims, so what, move on take another shot at someone that might potentially change your program.

beavs down 3 @ cal as we speak

mordecai is changing wisc's program? threw for 145 yards today at home vs rutgers

leary just got his shit pushed in 51-13 and has been playing like crap all year

I'm not saying don't try. I am saying don't expect much from whoever we get.

So you wouldn't take a chance on any of the above mentioned portal transfer QB's in my post or @headcard over HH?
All of the above QB's mentioned have moved their teams in the right direction.

the QBs in @headcard's post are all at least in their 2nd year at their new schools.

yes, obviously it would be nice to have Caleb Williams at Nebraska.

Haarberg has also moved his team in the right direction & has 2 more years of eligibility to develop as a player. I would rather have him than Mordecai or Leary, that's for sure.

Haarberg is the guy going forward, but we do need a QB out of the portal who can step up in case Haarberg gets injured.

What is Rhule's formula? Start with another guy and switch because of injuries? That formula?

How do you square complaining about the inept B1G conference and then throw in an even more inept Nebraska team of the last 10 years and then claim a barely 50% passer is the savior "people better get used to" is the answer? What happened to we didn't just want to be average, we wanted to be great again, the best.

I don't find comfort in the fact that Nebraska has beat:
3-4 LA Teach team 28-14 - North Texas hung 40 on them, Western Kentucky 35
1-4 NI team that has only scored over 20 points twice this year - Boston College first game and Toledo
2-4 Illinois team that scored 30 in a win over mighty Toledo and 23 in overcoming Florida Atlantic

I am for winning but not for pretending that we are some juggernaut that we are not. I seem to recall someone repeatedly stating how terrible the B1G is and especially the west so winning it isn't much to crow about.

Sat has done a good job of utilizing H squared's skill set despite the calls for his head for poor play calling. The kid has the heart of a lion but the mechanics of a junior high kid. 4 TD's to 2 ints is not going to get it done in a league that will do like Illinois tried to do which is force him to pass. It could get ugly going forward or we suddenly find other people to get the ball to.

at Temple, he started a kid with zero experience and rode him to a year 3 conference title (PJ Walker) after 2 games of someone else

at Baylor, he did the exact same thing with Charlie Brewer - a true frosh he started after 2 games and stuck with for 3 years culminating in an 11 win season

now, Haarberg

you wanted Rhule, this is what you get with him.

the B1G remains awful. high time we took advantage of it.

the QB of the B1G west champion has averaged about 60% passing over the last 5 years. HH has started 4 games. he's not that far off so long as we can hang our hat on the defense and the running game (also Rhule's formula).

Haarberg also isn't going to be here forever. I think he can get us to 9+ wins by year 3 (he'll be a 5th year senior) and set up whoever follows him to take us higher.

Harburg is a likeable, tough kid. The kind you want to see succeed
However, his passing game is third world. He overthrows nearly every pass. Recievers have to make circus catches. And we are nearly out of recievers.
He's raw but way too raw for a third year college footballer. Concerns me whether he can improve enough to be successful.

Leary is 5-1 at Kentucky, thrown for 1129 yds, only loss is to #1 Georgia

Mordecai is 5-1 at Wisconsin, only loss is to #21 Washington St. He has thrown for 876 yds, really not bad for a running Wisconsin team but I get it, not real great.

DJ Uiagalelei is 5-1 at Oregon St, only loss is to #21 Washington St. Has thrown for 1032 yds.

The truth is that Sims was a miss and that you can find a very serviceable transfer portal QB that can lead a team to a conference championship/bowl game. A transfer portal QB will be great competition and addition to the QB room and it's perfectly acceptable as a fan to want to see that competition next Spring/Summer.

ANY of the above QB's would have us sitting 5-1 with our schedule. Our offense would look much much better with any of those QB's as well as we would be able to do more with their skill sets.

Louisville looks pretty damn good.

185 yards rushing and held the Domers to 44 yards while creating turnovers on defense.

They have some fast dudes, and can play a little bit of defense. Interesting team that has a pretty easy schedule left.
