Sounds painful...
"Two defenders double teamed me and when I planted like a two-inch piece of my knee cap broke off...(Doctors) said they would have to surgically remove it."
Still not expected to redshirt somehow...
Sipple's LJS Article:
He's regarded as a true freshman who could play immediately for Nebraska in 2016.
And it doesn't sound like JD Spielman's knee injury, suffered recently while playing lacrosse, will hold him back from that possibility.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Spielman, a gifted running back/receiver/return man in football, also is regarded by some as the state of Minnesota's best high school lacrosse player. But he's sidelined for the rest of the season, according to this story out of his hometown Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
"Two defenders double teamed me and when I planted like a two-inch piece of my knee cap broke off," Spielman told television station KARE. "(Doctors) said they would have to surgically remove it."
Surgery apparently was successful.
When Spielman spoke to Nebraska football coaches in the wake of the injury, they had an interesting message for him.
"They said just get to rehab and don't expect to redshirt," Spielman said. "I'm supposed to be healed before fall camp starts (in August) and all that stuff. I'm actually coming in earlier than I would have if I played lacrosse, so I actually feel like it's going to put me ahead because I get to learn the playbook and all that stuff."
There was a time when Spielman planned to play lacrosse at Ohio State. But he's full-go in football nowadays, and it sounds like the knee injury will be only a speed bump in his career.
