I don't think there's any way in hell that Eichorst fires Riley at season's end. I cannot think of any ncaa coach getting fired after one season, except for ethical incidents. We must suffer through this for several more years. Who knows, maybe he turns it around but I doubt it. He seems to have no fire and just has the aura of a 7-5 type career guy.

Yeah that was Mike Price I believe. Can't think of any firings related to on field results after just one year.

In 2012 Ellis Johnson at Southern Miss got fired after one season after inheriting a 12-2 top 25 team and proceeded to go 0-12. It has taken USM four years to recover from the disaster that Ellis Johnson created in just one year.

What's his face at Alabama, but that involved prostitution.

That was Mike Price? I think it also involved him having an affair with a woman on his staff (no pun intended). So, if he gets canned for screwing the help, could Eichorst and Riley get canned for screwing the fans?

OU fired Schnellenberger after a 5-5-1 season.
Completely alienated the fanbase and administration from the beginning by taking a "you're lucky to have me here" attitude. Not really comparable to our situation.

Never said they were comparable, just that he was canned after one season.

Yes, but context matters. Very few folks get shown the door after one year, and pretty much all of them but Ellis Johnson had some off the field issue whether it was attitude or legal that necessitated the move.

Riley is still a coach in good standing, even if he doesn't have a stellar team yet. That's not an insignificant fact to the discussion.

Inconsistencies or false statements on your resume or CV will get you shown the door pretty quick

Who cares if there is precedent? Let's set the precedent and can these incompetent coaches. The AD made a completely baffling decision hiring this staff. The coaching staff hasn't accomplished anything to date, and they are never going to. This fan base deserves better. I don't care what any other program would do. What makes Nebraska great is it is not like any other program. That means we should fire an incompetent coaching staff, even if it is only after one year.

What makes Nebraska great would not be doing something stupid. If Riley is going to be let go it would be nice for it to be a clean break from a media and new powers that be perspective. Not trying to thread some needle where three or four entities in the system are trying to power trip And posture and delay or whatever.

WTF? How is Nebraska so much different than any other program?

We already did something incredibly stupid by firing a 9 and 10 win coach every year and replacing him with an old coach with a .500 career record. It's already a sunk cost, and we know things aren't going to get better. Let's cut our losses now, and hire a new coach. Media perspectives are going to improve when we hire a competent coach who wins games. The media damage has already been done for the most part, not that it matters much in the first place.

I guess that explains why so many of you are OK with accepting this pathetic coaching staff. They don't deserve 3 years. They've already shown their incompetence. But if you want to be like every other program, you got your wish. Our 90's run didn'the happen because we were like every other program. It happened because we were different.

Its partially money, its more personality.

Do you think that SE is going to fire Riley this year and admit guilt? Do you think Perlman is going to overturn his applecart in the next 7 months?

The only way that NU gets a new coach this year is there is some coup by the BoR that cleans out the entire existing power structure.

This just shows me how incompetent they both are. It would actually impress me if Eichorst fired Riley, and admit he made a mistake. I'd even be willing to let him pick the next coach if he had a well thought out plan.

Yah I think its a riot that people expect them to pony up for a firing line. Not letting folks back on the bus and crap like that. Nothing is happening until new leadership in place as a first step.

Also didn't help that he abused alcohol at the time. A few days before his "resignation" investigators asked players about smelling alcohol on his breath.

The roster plays a role in the 2015 record. Bo Pelini or Mike Riley, the record may not have been much different. fwiw

The coaching staff can't play the game for the players, who are supposed to perform their assignments on the field, with their teammates.

Purdue was ready. Nebraska lacked at QB. peace

Don't need precedent when the coach isn't getting it done. Fire the AD, the HC , and the present staff and then hire a young aggressive coach who can and will recruit the best players for his offensive/defensive systems. Coaches who might be considered include
1. Mark Hudspeth HC UL-L
2.Todd Monken (sp) HC southern Miss
3.Kirby Smart DC Alabama
4. Justin Fuentes HC Memphis
All of these guys are young and come with some risk but if one of them is a homerun hire Nebraska could be set for the next 25-30 years.

Fuente is the only real intriguing one. Maybe Smart

Leodis I noted in my post that some risk was involved but Mark H. is so intense he's kinda scary and Monken has USM bowl eligible in his second season so both might deserve some consideration.

I like Fuentes, I just think at this point the next hire has to be a somewhat splash. Splash coaches that would appease the fan base are probably Frost, Fuentes, Herman, Smart.

And before them it was Charlie Strong, Al Golden and twenty other guys that haven't done crap since their name was floated several years ago. We tried the hot unproven coordinator route. You need somebody that has run a progam preferably for at least 3-5 years to see what kind of recruiting structure they build. Otherwise you're just gambling. We have a guy right now that has already set in place great recruiting structure and lets just see how it plays out.

Anybody that watches Memphis or Houston play knows that their coaches are studs. Hire one of those two before it's too late.
