Is Iowa the new texas?

They might be in baseball. Not football. 3-3 vs them in the B1G, even with the upheaval of a coaching change during that time.

And they didn't start dominating us in baseball until Rick Heller came along. We've already beaten them more times in football in 6 tries than we beat Texas in 10 tries. Not to mention the fact that Texas is Texas. Iowa fans may be annoying but they are on a completely different level than Texas. Not really much of a comparison between the two.

Iowa is the new Missouri at best. No comparable football history , but like Missouri when it comes to empty seats if losing games. Bad Basketball programs. Iowa plays in the crappiest arena in the US for a Power Five. Omaha beat their ass at Carver in front of like 3000 Hawk Fans. If Iowa was a state away from Nebraska instead of across the river no one would think twice about them. Forget Iowa.

No. As stated above things have been pretty balanced.

The balance is not due to Iowa becoming the new Texas but rather Nebraska becoming the new Kansas st or Missouri.

2 mediocre programs battling for supremacy that don't even make a ripple nationally. If things continue to be so balanced maybe one day we can supplant Iowa state as iowas true rival.

In the last 20 meetings in football, basketball, and baseball; Iowa is 16-4. I don't see basketball changing that trend. Baseball and football are always going to be close toss-ups really.

Carver is not one of the crappiest arena's in the country..

Have you honestly been there?

Basketball wise it has been pretty even since we joined the B1G when the conference has allowed us to play 2 games a year in each of our arena's.

Baseball is were Iowa has the 8-2 lead and and they didn't play each other last year.

The 8-2 record is great for Iowa, but in that time frame Nebraska has, soon to be, 3 NCAA tourney appearences and a conference title. Iowa hasn't won an outright conference title in a men's top 3 sport since 1985......

With that said some southern team needs to snag up Heller

Either that or a northern or southern team needs to snag Erstad. Winking

I know, I know...we just won the conference. But just watching us vs some of the other top teams in the conference, our ability to sting the ball looks woefully lacking. Just no 'pop' off the bat. And our confidence at the plate looks in very short supply too.

I think Nebraska out hit Iowa in that game.

Does B1G Conference Tournament Champions count, or is that not outright enough for Husker fans?

There would be a line of college ADs waiting to hire Erstad IF he ever decided to leave. And he won't and he is in NO danger of being fired at NU ....maybe ever. What is your deal with our coaches? I hope you're as good at playing your bass with your garage band as your expectations are for our coaches and teams.Winking

I agree that Heller is special. He came from Northern Iowa where I live so I knew he was good. I expected him to be successful.

A lot of splitting hairs here

Time to face facts - present day we are essentially Iowa but with a more illustrious football history that is becoming more distant with each year

Both programs are currently irrelevant. We are like modern day Greece - a nonplayer on the world scene with a glorious past.

To be fair he did say "at Iowa". The NCAA Wrestling tournaments are actually pretty highly attended events.

OK who carries the tournment on TV ESPN? And it's tape delayed. It is not as Big event as the CWS.
Can we agree on that.

He may not be around much longer, Alabama is looking to talk to him.

Huh? Darin Erstad to Alabama? He turned down the Dodgers to stay at Nebraska two years ago. Alabama just fired a coach after one season. Why would he walk into that situation and leave his alma mater where he has great job security to a place where he has absolutely no background and no recruiting contacts and little job security?

We used to finish in the Top 10 in the Sears Cup with regularity, and sometimes in the Top 5. It would be nice to see those days again, and we're not going to see it with guys like Tim Miles and possibly even Darren Erstad as our coaches. And Mike Riley needs to elevate his game too.

BTW, I don't practice my bass every day of the week. It's called a "diversion" for a reason, and despite putting very little time into it, we always get a packed house when we play.

I will say that the guy that was 2nd chair behind me on the drums in stage band in junior high ended up making a living playing drums, so I have that going for me. :D

I'd take a bet that we never finished in the top 5 in the Sears Cup ( which involves men's and Women's sports)

Top 10 not as regular as you say but on occasions yes. Top 15 is more like it.
