Iowa State QB. Oops

Looks like he threw everything away for about $3K in wagers...used his parents to place the bets to hide his identity (again showing he knew beyond the shadow of a doubt it was wrong) and then tried to tamper with the evidence (again showing he knew he was in deep doo doo)....I will be shocked if it doesn't come out that he bet against his team in the Oklahoma game (the game which is being named publicly as one he bet on). I feel sorry for the guy at this point...all over $3K in wagers. Yikes.
If he bet against his own team lock him up and throw away the key

Parents too

I've no idea if he did bet on his team to lose...but his behavior suggests he is the kind of kid who would. I actually hope he didn't. I hope he bet on his team to win...I couldn't excuse what he did but at least he would be able to hold his head a little higher.

Own team ML TO WIN

That’s it.

Very clear. No exceptions.
And you realistically think that it would stop at that? Who in the hell has the time and budget to investigate multiple betting websites to verify that? I gamble on football. I am pro gambling. But it's not a constitutional right. It's OK to tell the players- "Do not bet on college football. If you get caught, you will be suspended," et al.

I want to agree but the other things you need to consider...let's say he laid a nice chunk of change for the Clones to win, do you see how it could lead him to make some stupid decisions during the game that could cost the team? Ignore a coaches play call, take a bigger risk downfield than he should because he's thinking about that 3 grand he has on the line...ignoring an injury he may have told coach about but now he doesnt..because he doesn't want to come out...further hurting his teams chances....just a lot of things that could lead to screwing over the program, coaches, teamates....etc.
or he purposely flops 3 games before, then try the fourth game he plays

One of many reasons why it should be illegal..and stay that way. I could see some douche flopping for 2 or 3 games...looking ahead to a team he thinks he could beat...and his prior flops helps make the spread more in his favor....then he goes out and balls out as best he can, cause he has money on this game. Yeah he won this one, but tanked the prior games to help the spread and his chance of winning.

Nobody is okay with it given the 1700s witch trial rules that are in place
I think you and K. ferentz have something in common 😂. His B1G press conference Q&A talked about the need to update the rules now that a bunch of his players were found out 😉

And before I get the Iowa hate again, I listened to every coach’s media day.

Hilarious

Maybe he should wear a scarlet letter

Lots of inventive baseless fear mongering drawing likes from mouth breathers.

Good for you!

The government is not going to conduct investigations for the NCAA.

I don't know what you mean by "stands to profit".

They already do

More people legally gambling = more tax dollars

Not necessarily. Cases in point are these kids involved. Legal or illegal, I doubt very seriously they claimed any of their "winnings" on their tax returns. Years ago, I had a retired teacher client that claimed winnings only what the casino reported. She never reported any winnings below what those forms reported. She also had statements from the casinos with losses of 3 times what was reported for winnings. She had also been out to Vegas but didn't report any activity from that trip so either she didn't win enough to be reported or she didn't win at all. Unless it has changed from 25 years ago, not all winnings are reported by the casino and I've yet to meet someone that won more than they lost for the year. I had clients that would only go to the track and bet the horses or dogs and it was the same result. I guess I just needed better clients! lol.

Casinos pay taxes

A hell of a lot more than gamblers

Duh

If it is proven he bet on his team, the feds have plenty of time for this because point shaving by a NCAA athlete is a federal crime. A few players for Northwestern in the 90's did jail time for point shaving.

1. Casinos owned & operated by Native American Tribes do not pay Federal or State income taxes (tribal gaming generated 44% of all gaming revenue in the US as of Q4 2021)
2. You are extremely naive if you think making sports betting legal across the country will eliminate "under the table" betting and payouts
