Iowa opens -1

Eh, the football game is going to be better.

For all the grief the trolls have been feeding you folks over here, it is apparent that you are the best 5-6 team in the country. You had some pretty bad breaks, no doubt about it. Plus you will have had two weeks to get ready to play Iowa.

That said, we are going to kick your butts.....Iowa 27, Nebraska 13...To Hawks!!

It's fun to try and rattle their cages with this but it won't matter unless we hold up our end of the bargain and make the game intense and hopefully win

Would expect a close game. I believe Nebraska is much better than their record and it is Senior day and you have had 2 weeks and we are coming in ranked 3rd in the country. I think Nebraska will be fired up for this game.

win or lose this Friday at least the fans, players and staff can find comfort in the fact that we opened as only 2.5 point underdogs

they can never take that away.:confused:

Iowa Fan here.

Think it will be a good game as I think Neb has gotten snakebit a lot this year and has a lot of talent on that team. We shall see how the game goes.

Should be at least -10. The Hawkeyes are clearly the best team in the B1G, maybe in the entire country. We have no chance on Friday -- Black Friday, indeed. I hope Iowa visitors to this board take it easy on us. Remember what it was like when you were the doormat and we were the door. We need your sympathy.

Per Coach Mike Riley: On how to stay motivated
“I think all those parts, playing a good team, our natural growing rivalry with Iowa, I think there is lots of stuff here that is real about that. Just bringing it back to the basics, I think our guys are just excited for the opportunity to play in a big game against a good team and get a chance to prove what we can do. Everyone is obviously aware of the ramifications for them, but I think our guys want to play and win. Whatever motivates them, I think it’s really about us more than anything.”

peace

Dude you obviously don't follow the underside of college football. IE the stat and numbers side of things. Numbers wise (not counting pass d lol) they are almost identical to us. Now with an 11-0 team ranked # 3 those numbers should be no where near a team with a 5-6 record. If vegas guys say it is a -3 game I would trust them more than anyone on this board.
Iowa is a good at many aspects of the game but not really great at any of it. Their best area is their run game. Nebraskas best aspect is their run D. Nebraska will be one of, if not the best run D they have faced. Iowa passing game is average at best. Unfortunately our pass D has been horrible, but improving the last 2 games. On paper these 2 team are very evenly matched. Iowa has squeaked out wins, Nebraska has squeaked out losses. The mental issues on this team have been more than any have realized. Those are finally starting to settle down and these players are starting to play as a team.
Im not saying we win 100% but it will be a close game if we do lose, less than a td.

Pretty sure the dudes in Vegas know how to pick a game. With that said why is the soon to be team in the nation only giving 3 to a loosing record husker team,,GBR

Not sure but I think the previous poster had his sarcasm thing going.

Pretty sure the dudes in Vegas know how to make money off of people picking games

FIFY. Vegas goal is not to have their favored team win in every game. Their goal is to make money. Gambler perception is just as big a factor as objective team evaluations.

In this case, a lot people will only see 11-0 vs 5-6. A low line is going to pull people towards Iowa. Which may cause Vegas to make even more money on this game.

Game is down to a pick em as of this morning....where is the guy that assured us Iowa would be a touchdown fav? RollingLaugh

Vegas wants equal $ on both sides and lives off the juice outside of Iowa and Neb folks who bet with a prejudice the average Joe goes with the book most of the time.

Iowa was favored by 21 over Purdue. Vegas knows Nebraska is better than their record. The spread is also a lot closer since Nebraska knocked off MSU. Not to mention a home game, practically under the lights, and coming off the bye to help heal up and prepare. These things all add up. I'm not surprised at all about the spread. It says more about Nebraska than Iowa.

I don't know...most of your buddies seem to think we are terrible. Our QB sucks, our defense sucks....and Iowa is just out of our league.

For the most part, Vegas does want to equalize the action. But they are not against taking a bet themselves when they sense a disconnect between objective analysis and gambler perception. They can do that by setting the line to entice more action on the losing side.

I'm not saying that's happening in this case. But on the surface, it's a bit odd that it's close to a pickem game for 11-0 vs 5-6. At first glance, the 11-0 team would seem to be the obvious choice. And that's the kind of scenario Vegas likes.

Not true at all. Nebraska will definitely be a tough win for Iowa this week.. teams like Iowa/Nebraska/MSU, even in down years, should never be expected easy wins. In 2012, Iowa's worst season in over a decade, Iowa still only lost by 6 to a 10 win Nebraska team. It should be a great game.

Yep.

Vegas sees a Nebraska team that is 5-6, but whiskers away from 9-2 or 10-1. They know that a lot of bettors will look at records and think, "Damn, easy money on Iowa." IIRC, when Iowa (5-4)hosted Penn State (9-0) in 2008, the line was pretty low in favor of PSU. The situations are very similar. Iowa's losses were all very close, and they were better than their record, but the general public saw a PSU team in line to compete for a NC against an "average" Iowa squad. Iowa won.

They're not wrong often.

The betting line on this one makes me very, very, very nervous. It's going to be a nail-biter.

betus.com still sitting at Iowa by 1 point.
