A very close friend of mine has worked in sports information for a university in California and has also worked with the 49ers organization in the past. He knows lots of people, etc. and he is in town for an unfortunate family matter and we had lunch yesterday. He asked about the Husker situation and gave me some information that I thought I'd share.
First of all I want to say that he in NO WAY assumes this will happen. But again, just filled me in on some info and this is the gist of the conversation.
He asked who I thought the coach would be and I told him it sounds like Frost is the guy and he agreed and we small talked a little about the situation. He really doesn't follow NU or have any inside info but had this to say... First of all he loves Moos. Says he's a great fit like most reports (nothing earth shattering here). Then he threw this out there..Moos and Jim McElwain go way back. He has met both of them and told me Moos thinks very highly of Jim and they are very similar in thoughts and beliefs. He thinks McElwain would do well at a school like NU. Also, Tim Miles and Jim McElwain are great buddies. Jim loves basketball and he and Miles have a long history from time in Montana, I think is what he said (remember the stir from the N hats McElwain had? They got them from Tim). He told me to keep this name in mind if Frost doesn't work out, etc.
Again, HE DOES NOT THINK Jim will be our next coach but said if things don't work out with Frost it is a name to keep in mind. Just thought I'd pass it along.
