Fun quote:

EXCERPT FROM JUNE 2010 BERRY TRAMEL COLUMN IN THE DAILY OKLAHOMAN: “This isn't about Missouri. Nobody cares about Missouri. Stay, go, drop football, get mad all over again that the Insight Bowl invited Iowa State. Doesn't matter.

If only Missouri leaves the Big 12, the league is fine. Heck, the league thrives. TV revenues wouldn't go down, plus there's one less mouth to feed. Heck, the NCAA might even give the Big 12 a waiver and let it keep the football championship game.

This is about Nebraska. Everybody cares about Nebraska. Nebraska helps make the league go. Without Nebraska, Texas' and Oklahoma's enthusiasm for the Big 12 wanes.”

One of the key statements as you read down the list of quotes is that there was/is no appetite for a Big 12 Network. Which is why ESPN went ahead with the Longhorn Network - they believed it could make money where a conference network could not. The crapstorm it set off cut off much of content they expected to get - but the fact the SEC and Big 10 could make their own networks go was why there was thrashing to grab the cash. Texas wanted to go ahead with TLN and could most easily do that in the Big 12. That is why they stayed.

This quote sums it up quite well IMO.

The structure of the Big 12, the way it was originated, in my opinion, that league was set up to fail. I do believe that if it would have been set up differently, it could have been one of the greatest leagues ever. When you set it up and you had favoritism toward one institution and then everybody else, it’s not going to work.

It COULD have been great.

I don't understand why they thought there was no appetite for a Big 12 network. That doesn't make sense. Why would Big12 fans not want a network but B10 and SEC fans do want a network? I have no evidence to support this but I wonder if that statement/attitude was put forth by texas people to support the lhn without the interference of a Big 12 network.

Whatever the reason, I love the B10. I do miss the Big8 matchups tho. My only regret about leaving the Big 12 is that the years of us being in it happened to be the few years out of the last 50 that we weren't better than texas. texas fans gloat about how they owned Nebraska. Well, aren't they glad they didn't get to play us in the 90s? What about today?!

This is kind of comical considering the failure in how the conference was formex is largely Missouri's fault.

Bob Frederick was supposed to be the comissioner following the merger and wlould have followed the plan origionally agreed upon. But at the last minute Missouri changed their minds and threw a fit because Frederick was the KU athletic director and Missouri decided they weren't going to vote for a Jayhawk.

That opened the door for Texas to make a backroom deal getting Steve Hatchell the job. Hatchell of course just happened to be the SWC commishioner who had just seen his conference fall apart on his watch. In return Hatchell went about ruining a second conference by giving Texas everything it wanted.

If Missouri"s leadership weren't idiots and voted for Frederick instead of being petty babies the conference likely does turn out completely different.

Is it just me, or is every article accounting those days ridiculously long? I do enjoy getting tidbits about what people's perceptions were regarding Nebraska's role.

Are you referring to the unequal pay NU insisted on receiving?

Always loved the Big 8 as it was didn't like the SWC teams shoving their way in trying to change the direction of the conference Especially texass....

In the long run they did us a favor and we will get a nice big fat pay check for years to come.
