The Skers were 12-1 in midweek games this year. Outstanding. But that means they were 22-22 on the weekends (including the conference tournament). And 3-8 in one run or extra inning games. 0-8 in conference one run or extra inning games. Today's loss doesn't even count in that total. Blech.

Just think what a little clutch hitting could have done for us, took us from a possible regional host to out of a regional entirely.

Most definitely. Clearly, the performance in Big Ten play was the difference in the season. But really, going 0-8 in those tight games is almost impossible to do. Plus, many of the tight losses beat us twice. Think if we beat Purdue on Sunday we lose to them on Monday? No way.

If you can play an opponent within one run or into extra innings you're good enough to win and over that number of games it tends to balance out. By comparison:

Rutgers: 2-4
Purdue: 1-2
Minnesota: 1-3
Northwestern: 5-3

Even bad teams will win a few close games. 0-8 is just plain stunning. There's no explaining it or the 2015 season.
