Seems at every level of football some programs win or at least do not fall apart when adversity doubles up on them. I'm sure we all agree it starts with recruiting and building quality depth, etc. I do think the real good staff's make sure they have all the players involved and ready to be the next man up if called upon. I think a good indicator is to watch a team practice, do they involve the whole program or is a lot of standing around going on. I heard this several times with our last staff that "lack of player development" at all levels might have been an issue. Depth is needed, but quality prepared depth is mandatory if you want to be elite year after year. I'm guessing it takes a good 3 years to properly fill the pipeline with "battle ready players". if you are preparing and coaching up the youngsters right from the start. You hear from JR/SR level players (McMullen today) about the learning curve. If a staff does not keep the learning curve in motion for each individual player, then you are going to have a depth issue. One thing is very predictable in todays world of bigger, faster, stronger...they are going to get injured, not just if, only when is the question.

I feel our new staff is riding hard and fast with the recruiting for the future and coaching hard with the players they inherited. They all know the deal in Lincoln, we have to produce now and I suppose they are coaching their butts off to be as ready as they can be. Deep inside they know it is going to be a battle....the previous group left a few gaps in this program. MR and company seem to be very well aware of what they have right now. Right now is important in Lincoln. I also feel the fan base is going have a bit more patience if we see the improvement in the areas we all know were lacking. I'm not going to name them...we all know what they are.
