How does Beckman get dismissed with no buyout and the school being off the hook for his remaining contract, and Pelini is still the highest paid employee of the state of Nebraska?
Maybe there is a difference in the conduct of both coaches, and maybe Bo didn't open up the University to litigation like it appears Beckman did, but both were guilty of conduct detrimental to their respective schools, and I think Pelini's rap sheet in Lincoln (while not criminal) certainly stands on its own.
Still can't believe we owe him $6M dollars. I'm certain that if Eichorst had seized the opportunity to capitalize on Pelini's missteps in 2013, the University could have saved itself millions.
I think Thomas knew he was going to can Beckman no matter what the Illini did this season, but when the preliminary report held the smoking gun he was looking for, he pulled the trigger now.
Good on Illinois for capitalizing on the opportunity when it presented itself (and before the season even started). And now Thomas gets four months to scout and lure a top head coaching candidate (without having to fight with any other schools for his services).
Deft move by Thomas, and it allows him to remove a coach he hired without losing his own job in the process. If I was him, I'd certainly buy a lottery ticket on the way home tonight, because he's never going to get any luckier than he already has today.
