IGC out for season

I wonder if they have packages with Rahmir split wide. NU has kids that can run. Tommi has two-way potential. The fact that it looks like more run game this year takes the edge off the IGC loss a bit. Washington is a pretty steady player and operates well in the middle. NU has three decent receivers and two decent TEs. For the amount NU is going to pass, they should be able to put together a functional pass game with those guys.

Gotta protect the QB to throw to them. Personally I hope we give Ervin and Johnson 30-40 carries.
Yep, if NU can put some speed out there the DB's have to respect, might be able to drag them far enough downfield where a 8-10 yard run can go to the house. At least, we can always hope.

I think they’ll dare Simms to throw it. I think we have to pound on them and make Hunter tackle a 225 lb back. I don’t think we can win a track meet.

Well, when you get into a potential track meet against some teams, its good to put your track guys on the field.

One or two young bucks are going to have to step up. Coleman appears to have D1 size and speed, we’ll see what happens I guess…😒

Ryan Tannehill played wr in college before taking over at QB. Similar traits
I don't disagree with your Tannehill example, but it seems risky to have Haarberg running routes where he may have to high point a ball and get wrecked on the way to the turf. Don't forget Sims doesn't put the ball on a dime.

As short as NU is at QB, we're all nervous about the QB depth at Sims/HH or Purdy. The loss of HH at WR could be costly, and besides, we have WR's a lot faster and more skilled at running routes downfield.

Might be forced to target Fidon now.

NU can't have their 4.4 DB's covering NU's 4.6 guys. Its a speed mismatch. They can cover those guys with 90% effort.
Match their speed with our speed guys and make them go 100% to try to stay even with our WR's.

I don't think its a mystery.

For a lot of reasons our passing schemes and routes are going to have to be simplified. We need the young talent like Coleman on the field but we cannot expect true freshmen to understand all of the nuances and intricacies of the passing game. Put in 2 or 3 packages for each young guy and run those in practice 100 times. The other reason to simplify is that Sims needs to have one or two options in simple routes to toss to, and if the guys are not open in two or three seconds to tuck it and run. We probably also need to have an outlet receiver like a running back available on every pass play. Better to gain 3 or 4 yards on a short dump off pass than take a sack or throw a pic.

And we need to see more Ervin and Rahmir Johnson as running backs and less Grant.

And here is a really novel idea that we have not tried here in a long time. Have our offensive lineman not false start at the five yard line.

Honestly, with what we’ve seen from Sims so far, should probably just play the best blockers and run the ball. If Sims didn’t already have a history of throwing way too many picks, I could maybe convince myself he just had a bad game. But we all know that isn’t true. Put one of the young burners in occasionally and run the ball away from them most plays, then try to hit them deep on trick/play action pass. Otherwise; play the best blockers and hope we can 6-7 games with defense, ruin g the ball and field position/special teams.

I don’t think we can win a game where Sims has to throw the ball 15-20+ times. JMO

Yes, yes, and yes. Especially the first 3 lines.

Since CU recruited him, I'm sure they're aware of his speed and size. They could assign Hunter to him, Coleman could make a helluva decoy deep.
Coleman is a beast. Will be fun and intriguing watching him this weekend. Not sure CU would assign Hunter to him but would be a great game to get Cormani some reps against someone of similar dimensions and speed.

Why should coaches care if our young WRs don’t understand every nuance of the passing game? Our starting QB doesn’t understand that and can’t read a defense, and he played the whole game.

"we have WR's a lot faster and more skilled at running routes downfield. "

When are they going to start playing? 😂
