If Langsdorf and Riley can't grasp the run game

Maybe he should hire a run game coordinator and dump the special teams coordinator.

A run game coordinator doesn't do play calls. We could assume then that when we did run, it might be a little better, but we probably wouldn't transform into a Wisky offensive philosophy.

look, I hope this gets fixed quickly too, but
If this doesn't work out in the next couple years we definitely need to get barry alverez as AD. That dude loves nebraska and had turned wisc into nebraska east a few years ago.
He is doing Something right...

That is true but Riley and Langsdorf don't coach the running game nor have much interest in running the ball.

Hiring a subordinate to have a bunch of interest in the run game, isn't going to be a lot of help if the boss prefers to call pass plays.

I'll leave it to HTO or others to clarify who does any of the run game install/practice, etc.

That would be a terrible hire. Football coaches can't wait to get the hell away from him. Andersen fled Wiscy to take the Oregon State job. You know the one that Nebraska fans use to excuse Riley's career record because they don't have resources.

I wouldn't be surprised if Barry has been lining his pockets for years.

Langs just needs to understand that running the ball works... even three times in a row. One of the great things about Osborne is he got it when it came to weather and running the ball. He built his offense so you could be more effective in a driving rainstorm or a a blizzard. We literally threw the Illinois game away and that is even more frustrating then all of the problem left by the old staff.

I think Langs does understand that running the ball works. We've all been watching. And a freshman with 2 good carries from Saturday is the only back to move the ball with any toughness and vision. Our current starter is not the answer IMO. Throw in a back that can get the job done and we'll be seeing them get more carries. I hope anyway.

What if Langs calls a running play and we decide to pass it anyway? Not much he can do about that. What if they call a pass play with other options besides a 40 yard chuck and duck but we keep doing it anyway? At what point do the players get held accountable for not doing what the staff wants?

Didn't Langs say that they had to teach basic quarterback fundamentals to EVERYONE??? This is on the staff. Give the ball to Andy again.

I am not sure what you saying or implying with the "everybody had to be taught basic quarterback fundamentals". High school QB's who have started for less than 3 years know better than to keep chucking it down the field if other options exist, and not to throw it on 3rd down late like we did. So you're saying they taught them basic QB fundamentals, but the players (and by that I mean our QB), didn't listen? You are admitting they taught them fundamentals but they aren't following them is how I read it.

Sorry I don't buy that. Oregon State was very balanced under Langsdorf for the most part. I get that people freak out when we are not running the ball 70% of the time but let's not act like we are Washington State or Texas Tech now.

There was an article that came out around the July 4th. Langs was shocked how little our quarterbacks knew how to play the position. He said they had to teach everyone including Tommy basic quarterback fundamentals. Nice attempt in covering for Bo.

Now I know you're looney tunes if you think I was covering for Bo. Under no circumstance do I see how you could draw that conclusion.

If they can't figure out the running game and understand the geography maybe they shouldn't be coaching at N. They talk about not wanting to put square peg in round hole yet they are doing just that. Not they're fault because Echorst made the hire but you have to know how to adjust. Clock is ticking..

Let's see what happens when we give another back (maybe Ozigbo?) a chance at more carries. Sorry, but you're not going to eat up any B1G defenses with Newby back there. These other backs need to learn to block, and fast.

I don't know Riley or Langsdorf. I don't know their favorite ice cream. I'm not gonna tell you they already know something and they are working on it.

I don't see our playcalling as running to setup the pass, nor passing to setup the run. They alternate running and passing. A defense must defend against both, if both are working. At least as how I see it, that's their philosophy. There is no run game to grasp. Could they change their philosophy, ya, but I don't see that as being very likely.
