Because so far Tanner Lee has been a dumpster fire. So if he is better than POB then God help us.

Tanner Lee might be great at QB camps doing 7 on 7 drills. But in a real game he stinks. He really is awful. I never thought I would say this, but Tommy Armstrong was a much better QB.

The season isn't over yet. The thing POB would bring is the ability to maybe make a play with his feet to keep the D honest. We couldn't run it and we kept putting ourselves in really bad spots with mistakes and penalties. I'm not sure with our O line play today that a different QB would have had any more success.

Well you answered your own question. Obviously, if the QB is getting pressure you need a QB with Some mobility. That is POB and not Lee

OR the ability to get rid of it quickly on short routes. I only got to watch a little bit of the 1st quarter so I can't say much other than that we need to see how things play out. I still think we can win the B1G west. We need to get better but it isn't impossible.

Dingle I respect your posts a great deal. I agree that the season is not over. However I have never seen a QB who hits the opposing team so many times with the ball. Maybe it is luck. Maybe it is lack of confidence at this stage. But to not take Tanner out for even a series to let him see the field and get his feet back under him. He looks lost much of the time back there. He plays with no urgency or fire. I am pretty such there are a number of QBs who would have had a great deal of success today.

Exactly. I mean it is standard coaching practice to sit your starting QB for at least one series when he is playing awful. Especially if you have a competent backup. Which I guess we don't. Hence the title of this thread

It may not be over but it's over.

So funny. People on this board said I was crazy when I said you can't have a statue at QB. "You don't need to scramble if you can complete a 5 yard slant or a 15 yarder". How's it working out???? Lee can run better than you think he just chose. It to in high school and at Tulane. Ummmmmmm ok

Locks onto his favorite (Morgan) way too much. Little to no pocket awareness. And while I loathe people thinking we need the "mobile" "dual threat" guy back there, Lee looks about as fleet afoot as Manute Bol.

I posted it many times when TA struggled and I don't disagree with it with Lee either. I didn't get to watch much of the game so I don't known if it was him getting pressure and still trying to deliver the ball or if it was completely unforced errant throws. Listening to MIke and MIke the other day they made the point that IF David Carr would have had the O line to play behind that his younger brother does, that he may very well have been a successful NFL QB. David Carr averaged taking 4 sacks per game. His younger brother less than once a game. Lee was sacked 3? times at Oregon and hit a BUNCH. He about got killed on one hit I saw him take today. I also found the post last week from somebody about Zac Taylor's first year. Amazingly similar start to what we're seeing from Lee. Patience. One way or another it will get fixed.

I love these Monday morning QBs. Tom Brady is a statue and he seems to do OK. BTW, learn how to type. Can barely understand your gibberish.

We give up on the running game so fast, and put all the pressure on him which he obviously is not handling.
Agreed, the playcalling has been HORRIBLE. Got behind the sticks the entire game. Here comes 2nd then 3rd and long and they know we are passing. And passing short. Didnt stretch the field at all. Though that is tough to do when first down is crap seemingly every drive.

Then again, Oline doesnt help matters. Aww shit. Whole offense is a wreck.

Gebbia is the spark out O needs. We just need aQB with pocket presence that can recognize what the D is doing and get rid of the ball.

Oline play isn't a pipeline everywhere, yet QB's find a way to get it done. We've been in position to win two weeks in a row and start with picks. Maybe TL just isn't a gamer. There are practice players and game players.

Really? Like seriously? I would love to hear that rationale
Nobody in the west has been playing well consistently yet. I like some of our talent. Farniok will get better. I'm hoping that Lee gets better. IF not Riley will be forced to play somebody else. Get Kalu back, him being gone probably cost us that last TD. There's a chance. It doesn't look good now but I'm not a quitter.

Yet to be determined. That ;post last week about Zac Taylor's first year was pretty eye opening.

Most of our issues go away if the offensive line was above average. They're not. We do not have a top 25 offensive line. They shut down our running game by beating us in the trenches and then tee'd off on Lee. Could Lee make some better decisions? Of course. But those better decisions are taking sacks and throwing the ball away instead of trying to make a play. It's not like Lee is just misreading the defense. He is just making bad decisions under duress.

But, we lost to N. Illinoids. This wasn't the OUs or OK St of the past. It was N. IL.

I am beggining to think Lee is more of a product of his father's marketing - camps, etc. than talent.

That said our line (Ofeense & Defense) sucks.

Understand. Through 3 games, Zac Taylor was 39 of 89 passes for 399 yards with a touchdown and 7 interceptions against Maine, Wake Forest and Pitt. Lee is 63 of 120 for 789 yards and 7 interceptions, including . Taylor did not have a scout team year to get used to the system. Your Taylor example is good one to see how the ship can be righted. It also is a good example in that we had Harrison Beck in the wings who we did not throw in there even when the going was tough. This feels different because that team was 3-0 (admittedly a LUCKY 3-0 after Pitt) while this team is 1-2.

Well, I guess it would be nice to be that optimistic. But I am not sure Lee is gonna get much better. He wasn't good at Tulane and he's not really in a good situation. My god, I can't imagine us having a chance at winning the west. But, good for you I guess.

That's the beauty of college football. We all get to find out.

The O-line was a dumpster fire today. Having said that, Lee is not holding up his end of the bargain at all. As stated earlier, he finds opponents wide open a lot of times. He also had several occasions today where he had receivers running wide open and he consistently overthrew them. They kicked a field goal right after he had his TE running open two steps in front of his defender in the end zone. Lee led him too much. He had another play where he double/(triple?) pumped to a receiver on a ten yard out and still threw it to him. Somehow the defender was able to defend it and only knock it down. His receivers didn't help him either. Morgan dropped an early pass that would have went for a first down that was put right in his hands. Later in the game, Reimers I think dropped a good pass that would have been a first down on a third and long. Who do you blame for all these screw-ups? The offense was garbage today.

Looks to me like Lee is a pretty ordinary college level passing QB. So I guess average offensive results shouldn't be a surprise.

It is not all on Lee - but his decision making and accuracy are bollocks - I was convinced last week he was not the answer. POB or Gebbia need to play.
Probably. He definitely hasn't been making good decisions so far. Lee plays better and we're 2-1 or 3-0.

I don't know. Riley and staff put so much weight into game experience, I can see them losing objectivity when they're grading out the qb's.

It is human nature to see what you want. If you believe game experience is so highly important, you'll find reasons to prop up the guy with the most experience, discount the guys with the least experience.

Watching the Texas/USC game. Ehlinger (QB) for Texas is who I wish we had right now.

Throwing great, good awareness, can move around / scramble, good decision making, etc...

There were several times yesterday where a mobile QB could have taken off for 10-15 yds and continued the drive. If POB can do that, what have we got to lose? Plus it will get the kid some experience for the future.

I stood next to Bol in a sporting goods store in Laurel, MD many moons ago. That guy is 2/3rds legs. It was a freaky experience, his belt buckle was just about even with my clavicles.

I think you guessed wrong. If Riley and Langs are dead wrong on Lee, being terrible in real games but good in practice), mayber POB is better in real games. In real games it's all mental! Just goes to show plenty of guys with good arms just can't make the real game decisions under focus.
