Looking at the schedule ahead, I have a feeling we will be favored in every game but MSU. Wisky just lost their stud back and lost much of their team to graduation plus had a major downgrade in coaching, Northwestern, forget about their depth, they don't have the mainline talent to compete (they rank 65th in recruiting over the last five years!)

And, I think we even have a shot against MSU. (Shoot, if we were an inch away from winning last year on the road I think at home it just might make all the difference.)

We aren't as talented as OSU but I think we are on par with MSU...and I can't see how anyone in the west is even close to our talent level. We should be 3-0 and I don't see how we lose more than one the rest of the way...especially with the way Tommy has improved himself at qb. It would be great for these kids to be vindicated with big run of the table.

I have a feeling this staff with have these kids playing better football as the season moves along. We could be pretty though by the time we get to MSU at home.

Looking at who we have returning next year. I'm really excited about the future and watching them get better this year. Then taking that experience and confidence into next year.

Oh boy lol. I do too but getting DPE back is a must. We dont have near the experienced talent MSU does but I think we could upset them at home. Dont want to get behind them though, im sure they aren't happy about taking their foot off the gas last year.

I think we run it.
I think nebraska should, but I went in thinking they should and would be 3-0 at this point too. The team is talented enough to have been 3-0, and it still is to go on a strong run in conference.

Nothing would be better for the program right now

I feel very positive about the possibility of this. Really want to see this staff succeed.
Nice for them to succeed and I hope it happens...but in the end it's about the players. Mike Riley and Tom Osborne would echo that.

This the grand plan with the development of the young player. And with a Riley and Langs developing the quarterback position we could be very very good in year three.

cynical ... TT has a PhD in trolling and he is taking it up a notch.. he is setting things up for later in the year

he goes on record as expecting us to run the table with the exception of MAYBE MSU which he feels we have near equal talent which is absolutely laughable. Then after the next loss he comes out blazing

Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, NW are all in the neighborhood 50/50 games .... we get rolled by MSU ... if we go 6-2 in conference it will be an amazing accomplisment

our talent isn't near what some think and even though in the big picture the talent may be similar we have gaping holes in key position groups (oline-LB-DE) that severely hamper us
zero depth, etc .... you are going to struggle if your offensive line is subpar and you are relying on walkons and the walking wounded at LB and DE despite talent in other position groups

TT is building up expectations so the vitriol after the next loss will be greater ...

Yep. TT has been trying to raise the bar ever since his buddy Bo got canned. That said, IMO a run of wins wouldn't surprise me. A few toe stubs wouldn't surprise me either. We could say the same EXACT thing about our team the past 7 years as well as could most schools. That's why you play the games. Nobody knows.

It's a new coaching staff, and a new system. It doesn't matter how many practices you have. It's gonna take a few games to gain some symmetry.

Stop...we aren't talking national championships. We play in the West. Rolling through it is what we should do. The idea we don't have the talent for that is idiotic. The BTN guys went to each campus and evaluated the talent. They said we had it in the West and our lines looked like MSU. Our reporters who follow the team everyday say we have it. Our AD believes we have it. I think we have reasonably good coaching...guys who can make adjustments. We should be fine.

Does that translate to a national championship in the near future? I have my doubts..we don't have the talent or coaching for that in my opinion. Shoot me for saying that.

They are wrong

The West is a grab bag between NW, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and Neb .... we have a 1 in 5 chance of winning the West

Nebraska has only won the division once .. to argue that it is ours to lose this year is ridiculous and just an attempt to drive up expectations so you have more ammo when we don't or god forbid we do actually win the division you can downplay it as expected

my guess is that if real cash were on the line you wouldn't be betting on Nebraska against the field to win the West

Don't 100% disagree, but we are playing in the West Division. This might be the definition of mediocre if you looked it up, with us being one of those at this point. We could run the table, and I'd say we have a decent shot. I agree with you though that there are a ton of 50/50 games, but no one left on our schedule besides MSU is daunting that we shouldn't have hope for a win.

No. This is year one with a brand new coach, schemes, a defense full of holes and no established running game. Rolling through the west would be an accomplishment and above expectations for MR.

yes I agree .... but the OP is arguing how we should "roll" through the West ..... we are in the same tier from a team perspective as NW, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin .... going into each single game we have a decent chance to win but winning all 4 is remote

if my math is right (I apologize if it isn't) but if you give Neb a 60% chance of winning against each of those teams the probability of winning all 4 is 13% .. even if you give Neb an 80% chance (which is ridiculous) the chance of winning all 4 is still just 41%

the notion that we should roll through the West is ridiculous and a clear troll

and maybe you're just saying this so that if things do go bad you can say, "I told you so."

Maybe we should just read what posts say, and comment on the writing, rather than trying to figure out what the motives are for posting it.
I get it... There a few of you who don't like Tulsa Tom and you've predetermined that everything he posts is motivated by something else. As much as you are tired of his "trolling", many of us are just as tired of you attacking the messenger rather than just responding to the message.

It would be a heck of an accomplishment to run the table the rest of the way. I think that we have the offense that could put up enough points (especially with DPE's return) but our DB play will need to be fixed on defense and we need to get healthy again at LB and DE.

I think that there is now greater respect for the other teams in our division than people on this board had previously held. NW, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa are not pushovers. During the time that Ferentz was having some success at Iowa, he said that the difference between being 10-2 and 6-6 were just a few plays that could have gone either way. We have certainly seen that this year with BYU and Miami. Hopefully things will start falling our way and players will be able to come back from injuries.

We established through three games...against two decent teams...that we could run the ball. Our tailback who gets nearly all the carries is averaging 6.3 ypg. More than Ameer did. Our shortage yardage back has yet to be stopped on third and short. Our QB has had a few healthy runs (although I would like to see more). I have no idea if that will hold up...by I think we already played two of the top three or four teams on our schedule. So you are offering conjecture here.

When you combine that with salty qb play, you better bet we have the horses to run through the West.

What game would we not be favored in? We have a few cakewalks and then both NW and Wisky at our place. (Wisky will have lost to Iowa and NW will have lost to Minny). If those games weren't at home, I might agree.

Maybe a DB will get an INT...maybe Tommy scores with is feet...maybe we play a penalty free game...maybe we go undefeated the rest of the season...maybe I marry a supermodel...maybe I discover immortality...

Shall I continue or should I open my eyes and take a look around?

the fact that I am calling this a troll is actually a complement to TTs intelligence

I don't, for a minute, think he is stupid enough to actually believe what he is claiming here

Ya, I think I'm still gonna wait until after the Illinois game is in the books to consider the rest of the season.

IF, IF we were to win the West this year that would be nice. Some of you could laud the coaches as being the super greatest thing ever. Some of you could laud the players for being talented and persevering. I'd be more than happy to spread the compliments around.

Did I wake up this morning and we're Purdue now? If Darrel Hazel and Purdue were to win the West, NOW THAT would be an accomplishment and worthy of coach of the year.

I. Agree. MSU. Has. A. Program. And. Coaching. Staff. That. Have. Won. 11. Or. More. Games. 4. Out. Of. The. Last. 5. Seasons.

We have beaten them or played them close the last couple of years with a defense that was predicated on stopping their passing game and fortunately they haven't had dual threat QB's to play against. Cook is a great passing QB and he will put up big numbers against us unless we can find a way to pressure him and play better on the corners. Defensively they have been very tough against us but our offense is more diversified now and will give MSU more problems especially with DPE back and the improvement of our passing game.

I think that this game is winnable especially since it is being played at home. It will all depend on how far along the defense is able to come.

I'm starting to wonder if we will get DPE back this year.

Does anyone know if he can take a medical redshirt and still have all his eligibility left?

Coaches have said he's right on schedule and could be practicing next week I think... Unless I am misremembering. If this is the case, we can use him for sure. Offense is going well but he gives us another weapon.

Possible but it'll be a big upset if we do. They are #2 in the country this year for a reason.
