After the last few months, culminated by what I have seen and read this past week, I am confident that I will not be embarrassed at any point during the Husker Football season this year. The win loss record remains to be seen, and I am sure there will be disappointments, but I feel like this team, its coaches, and its fan base won't be the butt of any national and network jokes this year. Drinking the kool aid and am absolutely looking forward to the season. GBR!

I both like and hate this post. I agree, no more blowouts on a national stage will be great. But man, if this is what we're looking forward to in an upcoming season...

Agreed

I don't see how I would ever get embarrassed by how Nebraska plays or by how much the team gets thumped, because I've had nothing whatsoever to do with it. Totally out of my control. I don't feel any embarrassment when a national show pokes fun at a 408-yard rushing record or a coach's sideline or PC meltdown.

I might get a sense of, "I'm a dumbass for believing this year was going to be different," or, "I can't believe I just spent that much money to fly here and watch Nebraska get pounded," but that's on me.

Fine. I don't want to get the sense of being a dumb ass this football season.

Embarrassed by or embarrassed for....... I don't want either of those either. 408, sideline manners, and f the fans are all things that I won't cringe at this season or moving forward.

Sooooo IF you say "I'm a dumbass for believing" isn't that in fact expressing embarrassment for your belief? I think you have to say yes. Call it something else if you want.

I'm embarrassed when I have a stain on my shirt or if my hair looks like shit. I also often want to run and hide if one my 2 year old twins throws a fit in public.

I get pissed off if the Huskers lose and I often want to break my TV if they lose badly. But my life is not effected by their wins or losses. I can't imagine feeling a sense of embarrassment if Nebraska loses a football game.

You must live in Nebraska then. I live in Texas and the blowouts made it difficult to go to work the following Mondays.(at least the Bobo is gone, I'll never have to live his b.s. down again.)

People who have never left the state of Nebraska don't understand the crap out of state fans take every time we lose. It's not as bad as it use to be (which kind of makes it worse in some ways). When we use to just lose a game, I'd get crap. I only get crap now when we get blown out.

I'll never forget when we lost Colorado back in 2001, I had to get out of the house to blow of some steam. So I went to AT&T to pay my cell phone bill, figured it'd be a safe place to get away from football. As I was standing in line I noticed everyone was all smiles and giving high fives out because we lost. And I don't live too close to the state nor do I live in a "rival state" (not then, not ever). Everyone just seemed to hate us that much and I this wasn't all dudes either. There were 80 old ladies who probably knew zilch about football that were fist bumping 12 year old girls because we lost.

Now of days, no one cares unless we get blown out. Then we are a joke.

I've lived in Illinois for more than 20 years.

As a proud resident of the state of Nebraska for a, soon to be, 43 years, Bo Pelini has embarrassed me multiple times and has brought negative (national) perception to this great state. F*** him and the horse he rode in on. I couldn't begin to count how many people have said something to me over the years, starting in 2008 with his costly sideline behavior against Virginia Tech.

I'm with OP, coach Riley will represent this great state and University the right way. A way everyone can be proud of, but the ultimate results are on the field. And you can bet your ass he and his entire staff is aware of it.

Oh yeah, FYBP.

Good to see you posting again HTO. And I agree. I'm not certain how much of my excitement this year is associated with the new coaching staff v. the BP and his circus act being some place else

Great take HTO. FHC BP was an embarrassment to the entire state, NU and it's alums. So by extension I was embarrassed and angered by his act. I was on a cruise and an FSU alum and track coach asked me "why the hell NU hadn't fired BP yet". He said he has always had tremendous respect for NU and that NU deserved better than that "nutjob". Side note was we were both looking for the NU bowl game to watch that the cruise line assured us we could get on the boat. They lied. Still have never seen the Georgia game.

I can attest to this. It's probably not as bad as it used to be, but Nebraska is hated in many places. I recall a Thursday night game with KSU. I was living in Knoxville and went near the UT campus to watch the game. KSU pulled it out at the end, and almost everyone in that place was cheering. But I always figured....nobody hates losers. So that's what I took from that.

+1. I actually take it as a compliment too. It means that people have the expectation that we are a solid football team. Look at it this way, have you ever had any strong feelings about a Vanderbilt loss?
