Nebraska was given a No. 5 national seed in the NCAA women's volleyball tournament.
Top national seeds:
  1. Wisconsin
  2. Kentucky
  3. Minnesota
  4. Texas
  5. Nebraska
  6. Washington
  7. Purdue
  8. Florida
  9. Ohio State
  10. Oregon
  11. Louisville
  12. Baylor
  13. Penn State
  14. Utah
  15. Washington State
  16. BYU
Nebraska will play winner of Texas State-Utah Valley State at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 15. Win that and the Huskers play Baylor. Final Four berth would likely be a Nebraska-Texas matchup, provided both teams get that far.

A Wisconsin-Nebraska matchup would be in the national semifinals.

How did Minny have a higher seed than NU?
I know, right? We split with them, but won four of the seven sets. They were 15-2 in the conference, and we were 12-2. They swept both PSU and Purdue, two squads we didn't play, so that pumped their RPI over ours. Their only losses were to Nebraska and Wisconsin, whereas we lost to Minnesota and Ohio State, so their losses were better than ours.

Minnesota finished with a better record and split with neb and as the poster above said - had a better loss than neb
how could they not have a higher seed?

This does set up a possible All-Big Ten Final Four if:
  • Wisconsin beats Florida
  • Minnesota beats Washington
  • Purdue beats Kentucky
  • Nebraska beats that team named after a cow

BTW, Stanford finished 2-8 on the year and did not receive a bid to defend its national championship. The Cardinal had won three of the last four titles:
2015: Nebraska
2016: Stanford
2017: Nebraska
2018: Stanford
2019: Stanford

Okay, now explain Wisconsin's seeding...

In comparison to neb and Minnesota - Wisconsin has a better record than both neb and Minn,
beat Minn head to head and has a better record than neb against common opponents (they were undefeated against the teams that beat neb)

I don't understand the perceived mystery as to why the 1st and 2nd place teams in the conference would be seeded higher than the 3rd place team

See, they are Husker fans, so they are making an argument for the team they actually like. It doesn't need to be based in 100% supporting evidence. Fans always think the team that they root for should be ranked higher, get a better seed, get a break from the NCAA, get the recruit...

It is the same thing you would do for the team you root for.

Everything you said after IKR explained why they were higher (outside of sets). More wins. Better wins. Better losses.

Maybe because it’s hard to reward them for not playing some of the biggest matches in the conference... play Nebraska, play Penn State, win those games and earn the #1 seed.

That being said, they did win all the matches they played in, so you have to give them their due.

Most people would understand that, if their sole goal wasn’t to flame husker fans with every post you can...

Oh he does it. He defends the Iowa Klansmen any chance he gets.
