Huskers -7.5 @ Illini Week 0

Illinois has the coaching advantage but I have no idea what their roster looks like. They just had quite a few transfers right?
I think I read that Illinois has the most "Super Seniors" coming back for a final year in the B1G. .. Yeah, the same guys that whooped up on us last year at home. Make no mistake, this is going to be a tough opener on the road.

Doesn’t it take 53% winners to just break even?

Actually most say 52.5% depending upon the 'juice'.

But it actually gets more mathematical than that, and roughly around 52.13% or so. You have to consider you are winning more than losing, so you aren't losing the 5% juice at a 50/50 clip where the 52.5% number comes from.

Their top WR the past two years Josh Imatorbebeh (sp?) declared early for the draft. That unit is almost a complete rebuild. Bielema announced this Spring that 5-star soph QB Isaiah Williams was moving to WR to help fill the gap. Their experience on offense is their ground game.... 4/5 OL starters and an All-Big RB return. Stop the run beat the spread.

I just max bet the -10.5. That line is wayyyyy off.

Las Vegas might start planning to build another casino thanks to Husker fan money. I wish you the best of luck. Winking

Did you really? I have no idea what to think of that line, it seems high but then again both teams are lame, so anything could happen.
I did. I did the same thing when the Buffs came to town a few years ago. I have loat faith in Frost. Plus Bielema would probaby like nothing more than to stick it to NU yet again. Im sure he will have his team ready

Yeah, Brett was so awesome at Arkansas. He has to prove to me that he can win away from Barry Alvarez and Madison. Not that the Husker staff has done anything to intimidate any opposing teams, but Bielema's staff is not exactly loaded with HOF assistants

Now picture Frost in the SEC.

Maybe it was dumb luck he made it to 3 Rose Bowls. But comparing him to the guy who can’t even get to Detroit? That’s a easy call.

Tough to figure out what Illinois may look like when Nebraska plays them in Week Zero. Last year Lovie Smith was playing everyone on the roster trying to figure out a combination that would work. Not much worked.

In 2021 they will have 10 guys that started on offense and 18 different guys that started on defense last year. That's good for experience but their experience - outside of the Rutgers and Nebraska games - wasn't too memorable.

Throw in a new coaching staff, a defensive switch to the 3-4, along with a different offensive scheme and some disruption within the roster - they would have been better off having Western Illinois as their Game 1 opponent.

My early Friday Night Pants Pissing prediction is Nebraska by 17.

I am not saying Bielema wasn't good at Wisconsin, I am just saying he didn't do anything to impress me while with the Hogs. I think it remains to be seen whether he can rebound in his home state of Illinois.

Nebraska has turned the ball over 9 times in the last 2 games against Illinois and last year L.McCaffery fumbled on the first play and threw 3 interceptionss.

Nebraska takes care of the ball and I think the defense will be wanting to make a statement out of the gate to start the season and I think the Huskers cover the spread…

Illinois brings back many of their 2021 starters.

Illinois will have the oldest team in the B10. I always run the stats and analytics and they return 94% of their rushing, 74% of their receiving, 4/5 OL starters, 6th year QB, FG kicker returns, 86% of their sacks, 81% of their TFL. All of those are very high % in regards to returning valuable players.

IL wasn't that good last year but for 1 they beat us in Lincoln and now have a better coaching staff. They have a good RB and will see a little slower pace from them. I think this is very much a tough game for it being week 0.

The problem with using stats like that is that Isaiah Williams was 35% of their passing attack, 25% of their rushing attack and 0% of their receiving attack last year out of the QB position. As a full time WR he probably will not duplicate those numbers with a Bielema offense. Also since he is a WR now, and an athletic freak and will be playing, some of the 74% of the receiving production will be on the bench. That is probably a wash when you consider Williams will now be contributing, but it still skews the numbers.
