My subscription is coming up and I was giving a brief thought to whether I will renew or not (yes) but it got me to thinking about what the site offers and what it does not, and how it could potentially get better. Therefore, I thought I would start this thread so that anyone could give their input about what they don't care about if it's present or not; plus things not present they would like to see. In fact, because of threads that are regularly started on these subjects I really haven't come up with any very original ideas. This is not some criticism of the site or a campaign to change something per se. In some of the things that I will mention, and I'm sure others will, I'm mindful of the fact that this site is a business and the practicalities of incorporating some of these things may just not be possible because it would require more staff and/or resources than are practical, but we can always dream. Perhaps Sean Callahan can give us some insight on that if he sees fit. I'm not one of those "I pay $9.99/mo. so I deserve the world" type of guys. I'm also mindful of the fact that, like so many aspects of college sports today, this is first and foremost a football site and it is and always will be in the driver's seat of content decisions, and ergo the fall semester is an especially busy time for the staff just to cover all that is going on there. My goal here is let the members have a sounding board for what they like and maybe don't like as much as things currently presented, and also comment about they would like to see disappear if they wish. No hidden agenda; no ulterior motives, no criticism intended.
So here is my input.
What would I not miss if it went away? Baseball coverage! I've always been kind of surprised that the site does provide this coverage as the sport hasn't had a great following over the years compared to several others. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the fact that the period of time when it is played is a relatively slow time of year for football related news and it gives them some content to include. I'm just not that interested personally.
What would I like to see added? Some coverage of Women's Volleyball, Women's Basketball and Wrestling - in that order of preference since adding all 3 would probably be unlikely. Women's Volleyball unfortunately occurs during that busy fall time, but I believe it is the second most followed sport at NU! In addition, if additional resources were required of the site to provide this coverage, including Women's Volleyball and Women's Basketball might draw in female subscribers, i.e. new subscribers, which from what I can see are virtually nonexistent here. Some would probably cringe at the idea of reigning their posts in from a content perspective at times, but I think it would be an improvement to the discussions overall, and especially the overall site content.
What do I never or seldom read/review? Coach'e Take: (Insert Player)! I have read a few of these in the past, but I feel I can almost predict what the content of the article will be. I've yet to see a coach say, "The guy sucks. I can't figure out why Nebraska recruited him!" I suspect I never will.
