The NCAA Track & Field Championships are complete and it was a rough few days for the Huskers. The men had an 7th place finish in the high jump and the women had a tie for 7th in the high jump. The combined 3 ½ points is the lowest point total for the men and women combined in 30 years.

Nebraska high school track has never been a hot bed like Texas, Florida and California but years ago the majority of the top athletes would stay in state and attend Nebraska. That doesn’t appear to be the case recently. A few years ago Aubree Worden (father played football at Nebraska) won numerous state titles but signed with Florida State. Last year Kenzo Cotton state record holder in several sprints went to Arkansas where he was a member of their NCAA championship 4x100 relay team. In 2011 LaQue Moen-Davis from North HS set 3 state records but signed with Texas A&M where she became an All American. This year the two best female distance runners in Nebraska are headed to out of state colleges.

The current squad has some good athletes who will probably be in the top 3 places in the Big Ten championships next year. In order to compete nationally they have to keep the top in state track and field athletes home plus start getting athletes ranked in the top 20 in their events.
