Husker OL target back in the portal

I understand the need for immediacy with the state of our OL but I hope we focus on building physical brutes, well practiced, and aggressive.

Scrounging the back lots for disgruntled and problem players has to this point been fruitless.

Don't know the story on this one but big warning sign here. Don't want disgruntled players, players who only are in it for the money or players that can't make a commitment that sticks. Not sure which this is but not a good look.
“ players who only are in it for the money,”
I think you might as well get used to this in this day and age of NIL, A.K.A. Greed Ball.

The tweet is unavailable… is this the kid out of Stanford? Don’t see a name other than Micah…

I believe this was a reference to Micah Mazzcua who was at Baylor and then transferred to Florida and has announced that he was leaving Florida.

Not sure this kid is a “problem player”. Oliver Martin left both Iowa and Michigan. I would say he was a pretty good addition for us.
He sure could fair catch pretty well I guess. The players you listed before were much better examples. Heck Trey had more yards and TDs in the Purdue game then Martin had in any season at Nebraska. Sorry but Martin was a bust that some how continued to see the field.

He’s the poster child of guys who are practice stars but can’t produce when the big lights go on.

He had some big catches for us. He did what he was coached to do on punts

Not every player or transfer is going to be a 'star'. He did his best and represented the university well while contributing on the field.

Whole other subject which has infuriated me over multiple coaching staffs.
In a game of margins we have forfeited I wonder how many yards.
The analytics are what drives that. The number of penalties when you return punts and kicks is insane. IF you don’t have Johnny The Jet returning punts the numbers don’t support returning many punts.

Yeah, but have you ever seen another team pinned against their own endzone as much as we have been the last 3 or 4 years? It's insane.

Can you share that statistical data? I've got a link here to just raw return numbers, but reasons aren't included.
We returned 4 punts last year plus a block for a touchdown which counts but shouldn't. I believe almost all of those were in the Indiana game and gave us an advantage.
To which we also rarely provide much pressure to the punter so we have a disadvantage double whammy.

I don’t have any data to support it, but I agree with Dinglefritz. The number of times, a team, Nebraska, or otherwise, would return a punt last year, and be flagged for a block in the back was crazy. It was so frustrating, and very intentional on the part of the NCAA to cut down on punt returns in my opinion.

I work with statistical data for troubleshooting at my job. 'Seems like' has its validity but its surprising how many times that can lead you in the wrong direction.
Here is one. It seems like we've fair caught punts inside the 10 with the opposition about 10 yards away way too often.
With a little effort we could give ourselves 5 yards which seems like a mile in that part of the field

Think about it though. Isn't that (block in the back) a result of a chronically poor coached team. Practice, practice, and practice. Practice and play with precision and discipline and you'll have a team that wins close games and most games. Add very good talent and you'll have a juggernaut. 90's Nebraska.

Absolutely, and if it just happened to us, I would chalk it up that way. But it happened in every game I watched last year, whether it was the huskers or the gophers or even teams in the SEC.

Certainly the lack of effort to practice makes a difference. But I do believe the NCAA is trying to “entice” teams to have fewer punt returns than normal. I don’t think there’s any harm in returning punts inside the 10, generally, because even if you are penalized, you’re only giving up half the distance. But still. The NCAA definitely wants fewer punt returns and fewer opportunities for injuries.
