New Year's Day is a Sunday, yet their are no bowl game. Seriously sad.
For monetary reasons, the two playoff games are played on New Year's Eve...PLUS two additional Bowl games are squeezed in on NYE, in the morning, including the Florida Citrus Bowl with two ranked teams? How friggin' pathetic. It's a Friday morning.
The Orange Bowl is now on Thursday, December 30th?
So let's skip New Year's Day and play the other major bowl games (Outback, Cotton, Rose, Sugar) on a Monday January, 2nd?
Here is a blurb that attempts to explain why. Rather sad.
"As with the 2015 season, the two semi-final bowls will be held on New Year's Eve (Saturday, December 31, 2016), as the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl are guaranteed exclusive TV time slots on January 2 if New Year's Day falls on a Sunday (in these cases, the legal New Year's Day holiday is observed on the following Monday, and there is a gentleman's agreement to not play New Year's Day bowl games against NFL games, which are played as usual when New Year's Day falls on a Sunday),[1] regardless of whether they will be hosting a semifinal game."
