How many family members you having over for Thanksgiving?

Immediate family that is in town. Later on do have a few friends coming by in the evening to celebrate. Nothing special.

Was half way to Wisconsin to visit the in laws when I got a call from my parents saying they’re both positive with the virus. We had dinner with them Sunday and my boys were at their house on Tuesday. So we turned around and I will be having my dream Thanksgiving of just my wife and kids.

Dude....on one hand that royally sucks...on the other hand I see a silver lining in there somewhere :)

We‘ve been doing this for the last 10 years or so. Got tired of running into the ground to please everyone else. It’s wonderful.

One of the few benefits of having one side of the family live 9 hours away is that holidays are much easier. There is no splitting the time between families or running around to different gatherings. When we are home, we have my sides event. When we are in the great white north, we have her side. It is a pain to get up there. But it’s way better than having to run all over to multiple events.

We had to cancel our plans. We were going to go back up to Omaha, but my wife had to get tested, so we are at home now. On the bright side, no travel with kids, no family drama. smoking a turkey and playing with the kids at home.

weddings seem to be the kiss of death for the elderly in our area right now. Lots of old timers dying of COVID after attending a grandkid's wedding. Some advice for youngsters getting married. Have a private ceremony with the preacher and your best man and maid of honor and have a party next summer. It will be more fun than going to funerals this winter.

Masks won't protect your guests.

Just my wife and I.

Yep. That’s probably what they should have done but it’s an anti-mask kind of family. We’re not ones to let ideologies come before relationships though so we went and now we’re staying away from everyone.

Gonna be pretty week at our house. My Mom, 87, always has holiday meals for 30+. Not this year. She is coming to my house. None of my kids can be here. My brother is awaiting kidney transplant so that family is staying home and their kids, one sister in law is battling leukemia so that family is out. My sister and her family just don't think they should put my Mom at risk NOW. But everyone is planning to be here for Christmas ☺️

Yeah, holiday traditions have really taken a beating long before 2020. When I was growing up (back before the telegraph was invented) we had a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most relatives lived within a short drive.
Going back to school as a kid after a summer of fun was always bittersweet. Bitter, because the summer was unofficially over, sweet, because Halloween season, Thanksgiving season, and Christmas season were lined up like bowling pins.
Back then there really was a sense of community. The grownups acted like grownups rather than trying to be a sibling to their own children.
Look what the "adults" have done to children since then. Took away their innocence decades ago. This year took away their schoolmates and holidays and replaced it with fear and panic. We really have done a number on consecutive generations of children, telling them that the world is coming to an end (global warming) and that the south (metaphorically) won the civil war and they are part of the modern confederacy.
I remember as a young nerd how optimistic I was about the future due to entertainment like 2001 A Space Odyssey and marvels like the Concorde and personal computer. I lived long enough to see the future: anti-social media, service sector jobs, non-assimilation of immigrants, death of science, death of manufacturing, death of optimism, death of democracy, death of Christianity, death of patriotism. Hey, but we got lots of drugs and 589 trillion porn-sites in the bargain. So ... trading the farm for those magic beans really paid off.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!

The greatest holiday tradition is telling every lowlife inbred iowa fan how meaningless their existence is

I am not worried about virus...but Thanksgiving is going to be a super spreader for sure.

Let's hope so. Every year before this one we solved these issues with herd immunity, because that literally IS THE ONLY SOLUTION.
Can you imagine if we were in year 102 of sheltering in place to fight the Spanish flu???!!!!
