I'm still perplexed by what happened to our BB team last year. Oh, I have my theories. There was no inside presence, outside shooting was abysmal and Terran Petteway was going through some rough personal stuff. Ultimately though I think it was a lack of chemistry that did them in. I don't have any particular insight into that. It was just something you could see when they took the court.
I've been following the Husker BB team on their trip to Spain. Obviously, I have no way of knowing how solid the competition is. But, one thing seems to ring clear from the trip - team chemistry appears to be 100% better.
Other things leave me hopeful as well. First; Tai Webster has consistently played well. Tai's skills were never in question but utilizing them consistently has been a concern. For a player who has so much experience playing against a high level of competition, his bone headed mistakes could just be maddening. Second, Watson and Ed Morrow are as good as advertised. McVeigh came ready to play. He's going to be special. Jacobson adds a nice physical presence when he's on the court with the ability to shoot from outside. And I haven't even mentioned Shields or a White yet. Finally, it appears Hammond is coming along.
It's way too early to start predicting how the season will play out but things are looking promising.
