He laid out a plan for Trev that convinced him that he can fix what ails us. We'll see.

We need to see an outline of that plan pretty soon to inject some hope into our fan base (and give us something to criticize 😅)

We want to see evidence of sound offensive football with a focus on a strong running game that attacks the defense. I'd like to see his new online coach be more visible and vocal with the stated mission, same for the offensive coordinator. I want him to convince us that scheme does not trump fundamentals and execution. We're going to win the fight in the trenches. Everyone says that, but it takes an incredible commitment and desire to achieve it.

I want him to publicly state that every position will be earned and that he is bringing competition to the quarterback room. He will not tolerate rookie mistakes among upperclassmen.

I want him to be fanatical about special teams. He has treated it like an afterthought.

Lastly, he has to recommit to recruiting the right type of kids for the program.

My gut is that Trev is dead serious about the internal changes that need to occur with the program and will fully support the implementation of best practices to make significant strides forward.

Trev isn't a chef in the kitchen, but he is responsible for the restaurant and its well-being, so his influence is large.

He can't. If he didn't do it in 4 years he definitely absolutely won't now. No recruits for a 1 year coach, No transfer portals for a 1 year staff, no good new assistants for a 1 year gig.

I dont think we need to be a power running team. If we could execute the offense we have now, it would be a thing of beauty. A line that can block for it, and a QB that can quickly read the defense, while not fearing for his life, and get the ball out to the playmakers in space. We get that, none of us care about power running, because the thing that is more important to us, whether we want to admit it or not, is winning.

We think power running is the way because that is how Tom did it. Newsflash, Tom wouldnt be running the same offense today. He'd have migrated more towards the spread.

The summary of what lies ahead is pretty daunting- we're in hail mary mode:
1. Need to quickly hire quality assistants willing to jump on a sinking ship and gel by August
2. Need to figure out the roster, recruiting to the ship in shambles, and pray for roster retention amid the chaos
3. QB being uncertain, and potentially trotting out a 1st year starter next year or riding a perpetual mistake prone loser (performance not character)- how will team respond to a transfer taking #1 spot if AM came back?
3. Replace 5+ experienced defensive starters on the side that was actually working- +losing best WR and best TE
4. Find specialists who can perform under the lights
5. Maintain some fan support to avoid toxic culture
etc. etc.

That's almost an impossible task. So much comes down to individual player performance/ability as well.

All this is the formula to take a 3 win team to 7+ wins.

Hiring the right assistants can go a long way. If Frost gets it right, I don't see why he can't have a turnaround comparable to Brohm at Purdue tbh.

We have went from asking if Brohm is the right guy to excited the rebuild seems to have been righted in about a half a season. All because he got the assistants right.

That depends. It's imperative that they build a lot of hype going into next season. Lots of recruits in for the first three home games. Absolutely need to win the first three and four of the first five. With convincing enough wins, we could potentially be ranked. Football is largely about momentum. A lot of ifs there, but get it rolling and the program could be on solid footing for the future

I always appreciate when somebody has been given full opportunity and support to implement their plan and it fails substantially, that somehow they think the next plan that person comes up with will yield substantial success. It’s never been done in history, but what the hell - there’s always a first time for everything.

1. Better alternative uniform options.
2. A blackshirt policy from the 1990s.
3. Time to revamp the Tunnel Walk music.
4. Coach should be wearing a coat and tie!

The reason I lean towards a power running game is to slow down the game, eat up the clock and protect your defense. It all hinges on the quarterback. If you hit on a stud, open it up. But with our current quarterback room, I'm not going to put the game on their shoulders. I hate the term 'game manager' except that I understand it in certain situations.

I'm hardly a frost apologist, but I won't deny he has done some good things. He kept saying that we were close to turning the corner, maybe a fresh set of eyes and a new perspective will correct some of the deficiencies. For example, how could we convert a few more opportunities in the red zone? It seems we've set the bar pretty low for Frost. If he wins six games, he goes to a bowl and he is the coach in 2023. He's been humbled out and hopefully he is learning the proper lessons on the job. Slow and painful for us. And if he doesn't get six wins next year, the experiment is over.

Bring in a new qb.
Leave ego and emotion out of hiring the new assistants.
Brings in an OC that has a clear plan that everyone is on the same page with and give up play calling.
Bring in a staff that can recruit.
Get the best players on the field.
Have a ST coordinator and emphasize it's importance.
Quit with excuses.
Make all players accountable for mistakes.

Shouldn't take 4 years to figure these things, I'm not confident any of these things happen but I hope they are and I'm proved wrong in thinking you can't retain a coach who has won 36% of his games coached here and can't beat Illinois/Minnesota/Purdue. I'm sure I'll somehow talk myself into this team being good again once May/June hits.

We're now the "Scott Frost Charity Cornhuskers"

I think it is better to start at the top with strategy, management, and planning.
1. Have the correct goal. Winning the B1G West should be the goal. The only serious contending team in northern American is OSU. Having natties as your goal while noble, is a silly place to start. That is for later when you are able to seriously compete at that level.
2. Work on the little things. Scott Frost is sloppy in everything he does. He has no attention to detail and doesn’t value it. Note how TO coached teams executed and compare that to Frost coached teams. Note special teams. The scheme isn’t the problem.
3. Stop being a slow blinker. Adapt to the game, your opponent and the times. TO changed his offense multiple times and quite dramatically. Stop being tied to favorite players and systems.

I'm thinking this deal kind of fuqed recruiting. He doesn't have time to recruit HS players with one year on the line, he HAS to hit the transfer portal hard. Furthermore, what HS kid would come to Nebraska knowing there is a reasonably good possibility there will be a coaching change after one year.

If he succeeds and is granted an extension he lost a class of HS recruits which could come back and bite him in later years.

Then there is a team that has to adjust to a whole new offensive system in the spring. Those transitions aren't necessarily quick or easy.

The whole thing sounds disastrous with not much upside except saving $1m in salary and $7.5m in buyout.

IMO

We have to wait and see who he gets on staff. If it’s Mark Helfrich or some other Oregon rejects than yeah it’s pitchfork time. I think the top two priorities are a new OC with P5 experience who calls the plays exclusively. Then it would have to be a full time special teams coach. In regards to position coaches, I’m not too worried about landing solid guys for those. It’s the OC and ST coordinators that need to be locked down.

Need to mine that transfer portal hard!!!

Attention to detail is a hard habit to change. It's almost like a personality trait. TO and John Wooden had it in spades. Nick Saban is fanatical about it.

I'll talk myself into it too... no matter how much i hate to say it.

You hire the best assistants you possibly can and bring in the best qb you possibly can. Do that, and I think we can have a successful offense under Frost. The offense is going to have to make substantial progress, because the defense will likely take a step back next year.

Never in history has someone failed at something and later went on to be successful?

With all due respect, people like Frost don't get humbled, they get pissed.

True. My thinking is more along the lines of someone who is willing to be introspective and his willing to take constructive criticism from a trusted advocate. Frost is documented to be proud and overconfident. The Big ten has knocked him down quite a few pegs. My hope is that he learns the lessons being taught.

Should have clarified college football…no great coach has ever started out at a program losing four straight seasons and became a great head coach. I suppose Scott could be the first, but I’m not betting on it.

It's not that hard to fix this, Scott Frost just needs to be willing to do it and to do that he has to be humble and tell the ego to go live 6 feet under the ground.

Hire an offensive coordiantor that runs the football a lot. Double TE sets, FB, and RB in the redzone. That allows you to get matchups in the passing game and running the ball.

Go back to running the ball with the RB's between the tackles, use option type of plays to get the edge, etc, and that will fix a lot of problems. This program has seen a massive decline in RB product in the running game since Bo left. This program will never win in the Big Ten ever again until the head coach has an OC that runs the football succesfully between the tackles.

Even going back to the Bo years he had some damn good RB's and produce some OL to the NFL.

This spread, pass happy bull shit is so ****ing moronic for Nebraska. Run, sprinkle in some option, get 1 on 1 sitautions with the WRs, hit the TE's. and have TE's lead the team in TD's in theredzone.

Purdue D went from bottom of the Big Ten to a solid D on a national scale in one off-season simply due to who he hired as the DC.

If Frost can get the hires right, and for the love of god I hope Trev helps with this, then maybe Frost can surive and fix this.

Definitely agree with 1, 2 and 3.

The tunnel walk is garbage.

And WTF is up with the redneck shit show during timeouts? Black Betty? Seriously?

And the 3rd & 4th quarter intermission - awesome light show and then shit the bed with ACDC.

It's a mullet convention at Memorial on game days.

Good thing they don't sell beer at the stadium.

How about a dedicated special teams coach.

Yup. And I am guessing you will see Purdue go a similar route on the oline this year. Brohm is going to get a contract extension and my guess is he will get a bigger assistant pool as well. Currently 4.5 mil I think.
