Press release via Nebraska Athletics:

Ty Horn pitched 5.2 shutout innings to help Red even the Red-White Series with a 9-0 win over White on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field.

Red scored nine runs on nine hits, while White was limited to three hits and committed four errors.

Horn earned the win on the mound after carrying a perfect game into the fifth inning. The sophomore allowed just two hits and struck out four in 5.2 shutout innings. Jalen Worthley recorded the final out of the sixth, before Luke Broderick entered in the seventh and tossed a scoreless frame with two punchouts.

White’s Carson Jasa took the loss after giving up four runs on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks in 3.2 innings of action. Chase Olson pitched 2.1 shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Ryan Harrahill allowed five runs, four earned, on three hits while teaming up with Evan Borst to record the final three outs.

Hayden Lewis went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Jaron Cotton had two hits for the second consecutive game, while Riley Silva, Joshua Overbeek and Kanon Sundgren tallied one hit. Cayden Brumbaugh had one hit and two RBI, while Gabe Swansen collected an RBI double.

Rhett Stokes, Pryce Bender and Will Jesske recorded one hit each for a White offense that was limited to three singles on the afternoon.

The Red offense plated the game’s first run in the opening frame when Swansen ripped an RBI double into the left-center alley, scoring Silva from second.

The lead doubled to two in the third when Silva stole third and came home on a throwing error on the stolen base attempt after reaching base on a walk and moving to second on a wild pitch.

Red loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth after a leadoff single by Overbeek and walks to Sundgren and Matt Evans. Brumbaugh stretched the lead to four with a two-RBI single to center, plating Overbeek and Sundgren.

Horn’s bid at a perfect game was spoiled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth after Jesske reached on a slow grounder to third. Horn retired the next batter with a groundout back to the mound to keep Red off the board.

Red poured in five runs on three hits and a pair of errors in the top of the seventh to blow the game open. An RBI single from Cotton and a pair of errors plated the first three runs, while Lewis smacked a two-run homer to right-center field to make it a nine-run game.

Broderick took the mound in the bottom of the seventh, retiring the final two batters with a strikeout to capture the game two win.

The Red-White Series continues Monday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. at Hawks Field.
