Hord Named to U.S. Collegiate National Team
USA Volleyball has announced players and staff on the 2022 U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team (WCNT), including incoming Nebraska volleyball transfer middle blocker Kaitlyn Hord.
The team includes 38 of the country's top collegiate women's volleyball players and a coaching staff of seven, including three Olympic medal winners and two others with Olympic coaching experience.
Hord and the rest of the 2022 Collegiate National Team will train June 19-25 at the National Team Training Center in Anaheim, Calif. Athletes will train among the best collegiate players in the country, watch the WNT training sessions, study the USA systems, meet with Tokyo 2020 Olympians and be observed by the WNT staff.
Hord announced her transfer from Penn State to Nebraska in January. Hord earned All-America recognition each of her four seasons at Penn State, including first-team honors in 2019, second-team accolades in 2021 and third-team recognition in 2020. She was an honorable-mention All-American as a freshman in 2018.
A Kentucky native, Hord totaled 1,022 kills, 522 blocks and hit .409 in her four seasons at Penn State. She ranks in the top five among all active Division I players in career hitting percentage and blocks per set (1.31).
Last season, Hord had 345 kills on a .394 attack percentage with 165 blocks. She ranked fourth nationally in blocks and 20th in attack percentage. As a sophomore in 2019, Hord was a first-team All-American after producing 310 kills and 149 blocks while attacking at a .440 clip that ranked third nationally. Hord was an honorable-mention All-American as a freshman in 2018, when she had 220 kills and 129 blocks.
In addition to being a four-time All-American, Hord was a four-time All-Big Ten selection. She was a first-team pick the past three years after earning second-team honors as a freshman. Hord has also excelled in the classroom, earning a spot on the Academic All-Big Ten team each of the last three seasons.
Rob Browning, head coach of the St. Mary's women's volleyball team, will serve as the Collegiate Team's head coach. Browning has assisted the U.S. Men's National Team at three Olympic Games and has served as a consultant coach for the U.S. Women's National Team over the last four years.
Along with the WNT Open Program and the WNT Spring Training Camp, the WCNT is an opportunity for the U.S. Women's National Team (WNT) coaching staff to observe and evaluate the NCAA athletes with the highest potential. Several former WCNT members are now on the WNT, including 2020 Olympic gold medalists Michelle Bartsch-Hackley, Annie Drews, Chiaka Ogbogu, Kelsey Robinson and Jordan Thompson.
