What a freaking joke. These refs get payed damn well, and they never have to explain this stuff. Put them behind a mic too... they are out there doing this kind of crap, time to hold them responsible. There seem to be many more bad refs these days, and it gives the ones who want to serve the game in a positive way a bad name. Story is on awfulannouncing.com I am having a hard time linking from my phone.

That is crazy. Damn I had been watching the game but my wife changed the channel.

The ref was completely in the wrong because they announcer did nothing wrong. But even if the announcer was 'waving him off,' the ref would have still been in the wrong. The profession of being a referee is not for everyone. This ref doesn't see like he has thick enough skin for the job.

Absolutely no excuse for this whatsoever and the Horizon League needs to take a long hard look at whether they ever employ this official to officiate another game in their league. Short of making some type of life threatening statement the announcer has the right to free speech and is employed by Learfield Sports (not the Horizon League or UW-GB) to describe the game action, whether the official agrees with his description or not.

What I find amusing about a lot of college basketball officials is that they will let themselves be completely emasculated by big-name head coaches, then try to show how tough they are by doing stuff like this. Reminds me of when Karl Hess threw Tim Miles out of the NCAA Tournament game for pointing at a shot clock that was not running. If that had been Roy Williams or Sean Miller or Bill Self, there would have been no technical foul - only apologetic knob-slobbering for the clock malfunctioning in the first place.

College basketball would be a lot more enjoyable if the people in charge would stop having one set of rules for the power coaches, and another for everyone else.

Well that's not true. Karl Hess was the most hated official in the country. He was infamous for pulling that crap with everybody almost every freeking game he worked. The ACC eventually 'fired' the guy they were so sick of his crap.

But yeah, officiating needs a lot more accountability overall. It shouldn't take a Hess-level of insanity before action is taken.

Hess got fired by the ACC because he made a racist comment to a fan, who turned out to be a influential businessman. He was also infamous for ejecting fans from courtside seats and other similar antics. I don't ever remember him standing up to any of the whining, screaming work-the-refs-for-40-minutes coaches who operate under their own set of rules.
