Honest question for those who demand Alberts

Having a connection to the program is nice but not a necessity...I think if we do go with a connection Ed Stewart makes sense

Wouldn`t this go against everything Ronnie and Hank said yesterday regarding a search? You don`t need a search committee if you go with Rimington.

Not sure why he would be the choice.

Nobody at Nebraska is actually using a search committee if Osborne is involved. Only hired to fool people into thinking they will listen to anything an outside committee has to say.

C'mon. Really? The search committee thing is just a facade to placate the masses who are up in arms about how Eichorst hired Riley. It may not be Rimmington, but as I said in another post, the presser announcing the new AD will start with "After an extensive national search, we decided to bring................home to Lincoln........and so on and so on and so on

This was all hilarious to hear how Osborne will be involved.... right after Osborne gave an interview saying he was not talked to (even though he was on campus the last couple days).

If true that blows chunks.

That will suck even more.

Like I told some friends and family yesterday. Never trust what a person says when they have a microphone in front of them.

Read this and explain how he is ANY different than Eichorst (other than he played here).
I personally think they install Rimington tomorrow and bring him on the field at halftime. That way the masses will have to get on board, and the backlash will be limited. I am guessing he will get it full time if the masses approve.

How many on here are demanding alberts?
If you are please post that you are in the thread.

NET needs to show some highlights of Osborne's run from 1988-1991 just to take him down a notch in peoples' minds. He was great when he finally got elite talent, and the elite talent came with a lot of extra baggage.

Yeah, horrible career. Good point. Sometimes I think this fanbase is getting exactly what it deserves.
Point out all of the national championships Nebraska has won that Osborne has not been directly involved in.

What has he done to make him qualified other than to have played here?

You have to love the 'fans' who say, "But, but, but, Osborne also stunk" and then posts like this put them in their place.

What is this "backlash"-- I don't think anyone is upset with an AD being fired

I do have a big problem with not using an outside search committee!!

Are there a lot of fans who say that about Osborne, the coach? I don’t recall serious fans making that claim, but maybe I’m wrong.

The ones opposed to alberts are wrestling fans, wrestling is not a money maker pretty much anywhere so it was cut , it is what it is...if this makes him so bad then I don't know what to say

Aw, snap! Now you took ME down a notch!

In 1992 the story of Tom Osborne was "the nice guy who couldn't win the big game." Florida-based teams, Oklahoma, Colorado, and others were all seen as the new face of college football. They had speed all over the field. Nebraska had "three yards and a cloud of dust." It had plodding defenses full of juiced-up muscleheads who could only wave as speedier opponents went flying by.

In case you are under the age of 30, and thus wouldn't remember, there were a lot of fans grumbling that the game had passed Osborne by. He could beat up on the little sisters of the poor in the Big Eight (Kansas, Kansas State, and Iowa State are all among the worst teams in history winning percentage-wise). He got stuffed every time he played someone decent.

He was best known for two point conversion attempt that lost him a game. Not a great claim to fame.

So, yes, I think it is safe to say Tom Osborne's reputation changed considerably after the championships. No one considered him a genius in 1992. So was he a different man? Nope. The perception was just different. Never as bad as his critics said. Never as good as his fans said.

I could give 2 shits he did what he was told to do. But it's HOW he did it. We have been told that is the wrong way, and not once has he owned that. The descriptions in that article are almost identical to the descriptions put out there to crap on Eichorst.
We can't do better than that?

There could be many reasons of why it was done the way it was done, we don't know, no matter what people were going to hate him regardless, it wouldn't matter if he owned anything. I really don't care if he gets the job or not

Didn't Riley do the same to Banker? Phone call while he was recruiting if I remember correctly. Bad Riley!

From what I've heard, Rimington doesn't want it. He's dedicated to the charity.

That being said, if they pick Trev, I'm done. I will disassociate with the university (I am sure they care, right?) I can't stand that guy. And hiring simply because he was a former great player is ridiculous.

So I guess some of you are hoping for Trev just to get rid of me.
