High school letter jackets....

I never did but only because my roommate did the first night we went out and was mocked all night. Next morning I put my in the trunk of my car and there it stayed until Christmas when I went home haha.

Umm, no, never. And I also didn't wear my fraternity tee-shirts after I graduated, except to exercise in.

That being said, I do still have my letter jacket almost 30 years later. It's in a trunk. Also in that trunk, the SI issues and LJS newspapers for all the Nebraska NCs in the 90s.

My letter jacket weighed almost 20lbs...... You know those ridiculous guys that sewed all of their medals on the jacket? I was one of them. My mom took great pride sewing those wrestling medals (and a few track) onto that letter M!

Its in a box somewhere in Daykin, Nebraska and I haven't seen it 20years.

I got my jacket as a sophomore, which was no great accomplishment at a small school, so by my senior year in high school I was pretty much done wearing it. I'm certain that it never even made the road trip to college.

But in fairness to spartan, mine was not a York Dukes jacket. Had I owned one of those, I probably would have worn it on campus every day and the co-eds would have thrown themselves at me accordingly.

My dad made sure my brothers and I each got one in high school.

By the late 90's, they were not cool and no one wore them at my school.

I think I wore it one time... to try it on... and never left the house with it! I did pin on a few of my letters that I received though.

It's probably still at my parents in a closet, along with all of my medals from childhood!

I'm pretty proud of myself for knowing almost all of the small towns in Nebraska, but honestly I don't think I've ever heard of Daykin.

When that school was built they told everyone that was the hot thing rubber floor never needs refinishing the only bad part we were the only stupid ones to install one that I'm aware of
No, I also played on a couple of those courts. The worst part was that when dribbling, the ball would grip to the floor longer than you were used to. So if you tried to push the ball up the court quickly, the ball would lag behind. I'm not sure if that's why they fell out of favor, but that's what I remember about them. That, and running on them produced a lot of static electricity.

I think Missouri might have had a rubber court for a while - or at least it looked like one on The Big 8 Game of the Week with Jay Randolph and former Big 8 All-American Gary Thompson.

York College had a 'state of the art' rubberized floor, right after I graduated...hated it when I played on it....

The ridiculous thing is that they messed it up the first time and had to do it again. It cost about an extra 70 grand, which was taken out of the fund to create an asphalt track....... Sucked not having a nice track around one of the nicest football fields in the state! Thanks Jim Durflinger!

The middle school I attended had this flooring. It was awful.

This is anonymous message board...of course I have 3 gold medals, a nobel prize, and just saved the a litter of puppies (and that was just this morning!!).

When I hear the term letter jacket, I think of greasers, milkshakes, and poodleskirts.

GBR

Since we are looking back 'fondly', a kid at York once got mad for some unknown reason and burned the high jump mats( maybe pole vault as well)...the single WORST smell ever...cancelled track for a week...

WHAT WAS CRUSHED WHITE ROCK LIKE TO RUN ON???
Loved it. I used to be able to run well. We always hosted a junior high track meet. 1200 was the longest race back then. One of my vivid memories is lapping a kid in a 3 lap race. Other schools hated it, but we were used to running on it.

Had a college roommate who went to Louisville High School. This was about 15 years ago. Apparently their football field was in terrible conditions, and some schools refused to play there. Big chunks of grass missing, very uneven footing. So their coach sent opposing coaches a map of where the "potholes" were on the field so it would be a "fairer fight".

It was terrible....... But you didn't need a map of the field to beat them! "Schedule them for homecoming every year" was a quote spoken by the Head FB coach at the ECNC school that I coached at for a decade. Made me laugh just thinking about it!

This thread reminds me to call mom and ask where the hell my letter jacket ended up from 20 years ago.

I graduated in '97, and it just dawned on me... I've been out of High School for 20 years.
