…. The Reds COULD be buyers at the deadline… need starting pitching, IMHO… so without jeopardizing the future… who would you go after?
I’m dreaming big:
Max Scherzer
A little less big:
Zack Greinke
Less big:
Sonny Gray

Im pretty sure Gray is the best of these three. Max has given up 3 homers in 4 innings so far today.

It's been an incredible year. Even us Reds fans didn't think this was possible. They desperately need pitching. Abbott was a find! They need another ace and some mid relievers. I hope they open the purse strings. This team has potential.

Greene coming back from the IL will help.

I would give the Friars a call about Blake Snell.

Could be wrong, but I think he’s a free agent at the end of the year. SD might move him fairly cheap.

Scherzer has a no trade .. He would have to agree to the trade

he makes almost what the entire payroll of the Red currently is - Reds - 50 million
Scherzer - 43 million and he has another year on his contract - they would need to trade
him or pay him 2024 - no way the Reds are going to almost double their payroll for the remainder of this year and next

if he agrees to the trade the Reds would have to convince the Mets to continue to pay part of his salary as well as dump payroll elsewhere to decr the 43 million owed - may be doable in that scenario

Think they'll buy but not go all out. At least they shouldn't. Central is very mediocre this year and the Reds best days are still ahead.

Maybe they could pick up and fix one of the semi-young guys the Royals have ruined. Singer? Lynch? Hernandez? I feel like all of them have potential the incompetent Royals will never be able to unlock.

I’ve had the same thought… maybe?
